ny gift fair preview: thomas paul

it’s always fun to see what thomas paul is up to with this new collections and i was excited to see this new series of melamine plates. (though i’ll have to say, i’d love to see his designs printed on porcelain instead. but i realize that would mean a raise in prices). thomas’ new collection is an interesting departure from folk and sealife patterns of previous years and is full of beautiful flourish & bird designs (martha stewart living has a great story on that trend in this month’s issue). thomas will also be showing a new series of totes and pillows (pictures coming soon) but until then you can check out his new work at the keena booth at the ny gift fair, booths 3954 and 3956. thanks, thomas!

Last year when I was designing my wedding invitations, I was very interested and inspired by the look of these vintage flourishes. I went in search of royalty free ideas and found a wonderful book from Dover Publishers.
“Ornamental Pen Designs and Flourishes” By: Carol Belanger Grafton

Also on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Ornamental-Designs-Flourishes-Pictorial-Archive/dp/0486293882/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232381347&sr=8-1

is it a wonderful selection of these ornamental designs. You can photo copy them or cut them right out of the book!

I also have a set of Victorian Calling Card with these bird designs on them, amazing to see the real thing!

That’s the joke about T. Paul. It’s all free clip art from Dover, and he’s banking major money off of it! If only we were all that smart.

I love these plates. They are such a great update to his sealife and aviary plates (which I still love). His designs are chic and colorful and perfect for any house. The jute pillows and bags are just great. It’s a great way to decorate a room without being too fussy. I’m looking forward to seeing his booth at the show.
