before & after: mandy’s sidetable

because our bedroom has weird outcroppings, i’ve never been able to fit side tables next to our bed. so whenever i see a cute side table, or a fun before & after like this one, i’m always a little bit jealous. one day we’ll live in a home with rooms that have four regular walls, but until then, i’ll keep admiring projects like this one from d*s reader mandy from sugar and candy at etsy. mandy decided to make over her simple bedside table by painting it and etching some glass to create a custom design. i so rarely turn to glass etching and think it was such a clever way to personalize this table and take a step beyond just repainting. want to see of mandy’s handywork? click here to check out her before & after set on flickr.

[have a before & after project you'd like to share on d*s? just shoot me an email right here with your pictures!]

I love it all. The etched bottle-lamp next to the clock is also gorgeous. Is that another diy, or is that a purchased item?

kate: the bottle lamp is actually just a cheap ikea find :) i think it’s sandblasted, instead of etched.

very nice; i’d like to have seen the table legs painted a darker color. ..

Now this is definately an awesome ‘after’, and even better after seeing what you had to start with with the ‘before’. I have a similar little table that you have given me some ideas about now.

I came to ask where the little clock was from, but I see that you’ve already answered the question, so thanks!!

Fantastic DIY, thats what we come here to see!
I would love to see the table leafed in silver or painted in a stronger colour to provide some contrast to the etched top, but thats just me taking your idea and working it into my own home. Thanks for the eye candy.

Where did you get the stencil? I’m in the process of redoing a side table also. I wanted to stencil it as well. But I can’t find a good stencil for a reasonable price. Love your table. That is quite a transformation.

Wow!! I can’t believe all the amazing comments, thanks to everyone – you’ve all made my week!! C – I don’t remember the actual site I got the art from, but basically I just googled Free Damask Vector Art – and came up with a few options. From there I manipulated it myself in Adobe Illustrator and printed it out to fit in the space. Thanks again everyone – y’all rock my world!!
