d*s guest blog + (another) server note

linzie_huntertout
good morning! i didn’t get a chance to talk about sarah’s guest posts from yesterday so i wanted to add them in with her content from today. yesterday, in case you missed it (or couldn’t get the site to load), sarah posted a great roundup of artists’ sketchbooks. i discovered some new artists i didn’t know, and renewed by love for sites like book by its cover. and today sarah has posted a roundup of her favorite calligraphers, including some people i hadn’t seen before. so click here to check them out!

also, it seems like 1/3 of d*s readers aren’t able to reach the site at its new home because some people’s dns settings are still directing them to our old hosting service. so if your browser is trying to load the old site, it’s not going to find anything. thankfully we backed up the site at the new server and it looks like most of you are seeing that. but, for those of you who aren’t- rest assured, your dns settings should fully propagate to the new server asap. just to test it- if you’re having a hard time loading the site- try visiting this url: http://67.23.4.186/

if you can see d*s at this address, the new server is working a-ok for you. if not, drop me a line and we’ll keep working to see where any additional bugs are. thanks for your patience during the transition.

Ha! That’s my sample pack from Betsy. It’s still on my fridge. I like to look at it every day!

Just FYI, I couldn’t load D*S yesterday. I was browsing on MS Explorer on a university cptr system that erases all settings after each user’s session ends. (there is no automatic fill-in when you start typing a url) So what you’re describing above shouldn’t have happened. I got some funky error message, which I’ve now forgotten.

IF people are not being able to load D*S, then they will not see your message about http://67.23.4.186/

CLF

it’s not a cache issue, like you’re describing above- it’s the actual internet service (your local provider) essentially refreshing the dns settings.

it’s slowly happening, and it finally happened for a few of my friends today so i think it may just take a day (or two, hopefully not).

my computer is actually being affected, too but i can still see the site in my rss feed for some reason, so that’s why i included the ip above.
