They’re both nice, but I LOVE the first one and how it takes the same main piece (the bed) and works a whole new look/theme around it.

Although I’m really digging on the teal in the second now that I look again… ;)

Beautiful and striking after pictures of the first bedroom. I’ve been wondering though….who do I have to thank for the term”mid-century”??? Its the verbal equivalent of “putting lipstick on a pig” Its “50’s ” plain and simple (Yeah, yeah, it was in the middle of the century) Those of us old enough to remember, Danish Modern abounded in the 50′ & 60’s and evokes memories of dentist office waiting rooms and black and white tv sit-coms

Is it me, or is the second bed oddly-sized? Which way would you lay on it? It looks to be more square than rectangular.

The first bedroom is great, and the owners found some awesome vintage pieces!

there is a LOT of pattern going on in that first makeover – i love them all, but i wonder if putting all of the fabrics together takes away from the beauty of each individual fabric? just a thought…

OK these guys have done a lot of work and followed their tastes so good for them. I hate to be picky but I feel that the first one looks a bit crowded with stuff…in particular the window looks a bit dwarfed by all the treatments. I’d be more of a fan if the white wooden item were removed from the top of the window and the clumps of art came off the walls. In the second one I find the color combo jarring, not restful. If the bed linens were softer blue or pinky instead of red and white it would feel more soothing, as it is its much too stark for me. I feel the exuberance of the redecorating process itself alive in these rooms, but as rooms to use, both of these feel overstudied to me. Im not trying to be a jerk or dismiss their work, just saying how the rooms work for me.

I only wish I weren’t so terrified of the nyc bed bug epidemic that the thought of buying used upholstered furniture gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Wow. It takes a lot of guts to paint a Malm bed. IKEA uses that weird embossed foil finish but the black (!) paint looks great! How did they do it? Overall, the paint work in the first bedroom looks first rate and I LOVE that light fixture. Is the ceiling white or a color? The second bedroom is nice but the first one looks like a swank hotel suite.

Thanks for all the comments! The Malm bed took days to complete. We primed it first using a special high-cling primer followed by several coats of black semi-gloss oil-based enamel in a custom thinned-out formula. The ceiling is painted a soft Behr color called Cornerstone.

I love blue-gray paint color used on the walls in the first bedroom. Any chance of getting the name and brand?

The blue-gray paint color is called Silver Lake and it’s by Benjamin Moore.

Where’s the bedspread in the first makeover from? I have a similar one from West Elm, but it’s getting a bit dingy. Anyone know?

The comforter and shams are “Regency” by Dwell Studio at Target. The two outer throw pillows on the bed are also Dwell Studio.

i loooove the first room! the vintage touches like the nightstands and the chair really make the room. love the black and white curtains, too. very hollywood regency. i want those red lamps!!!
