before & after: orla kiely cushions

dsc_5
surya from wee gallery sent over this beautiful before & after. after picking up this gorgeous orla kiely tablecloth at target, she couldn’t bring herself to use it on the table because she and her family, “eat indian food a lot and the tumeric and curry stains are impossible to get out.” so she decided to use the fabric to make covers for her cushions instead- turning them into something she could use and enjoy every day. it’s such a fun way to use simple sewing to create something more practical for a family’s day-to-day life. thanks to surya for sharing!

So cute! I got the same tablecloth and had a similar impulse, but I’m not very crafty. It looks great on the table too!

Oooh, those pillows make me happy!

Great idea. I’ve got that tablecloth and haven’t been able to bear putting it on my table either. I’m doing this project this weekend. I’ve also considered buying a second one and hanging then as curtains.

Thanks for the inspiration, as always!

love these. looks so nice on that chair.

i think LOTS of people had that impulse. i bought one of the laundry bags (b/c the tablecloths were sold out) and i’m making it into a curtain for some door-less lower kitchen cabinets. we’ll see how it goes…. :)

It’s a great idea and the finished project looks awesome!

But…I hate to say it…I really don’t care for the Orla Kiely designs. Too brown and green and retro for me.

When is everyone going to figure out that this fabric ISN’T pretty? It’s cheap looking. that’s all.

Great idea! I wish we had Target in Canada… I have been eyeing Orla’s goodies for some time now!

*sigh* i love orla kiely and i love her even more that she is at target. target is my best friend. that is a lovely idea it would also be great with the flower tablecloth (by orla kiely). I love that flower pattern. ♥

Oooo, smart! I live in Dublin but I was visiting my brother in NY last week and everyone was highly amused by the fact that one of my destinations for my trip was Target. Anyhow, there were empty shelves where all the OK stuff had been for the most part, but I did manage to get one of these tablecloths! What a cute idea though – I love the print but I think that it may clash too much with all my other tableware bits and bobs – bad clash, not good clash. I also think that it would make a cute kitchen blind.

These are great! What a lovely and simple reuse for a tablecloth [including a vintage or damaged one, too].

great transformation! great eye and it actually got made. So often when I see something I say, I could make that and of course never do.

Slightly off topic, but I’ve never seen that chair with white rope … looks great! :-)

Smart! These are so cool. I took the lazy way out — I bought the chair pads and cut off the strings and tags and put them on my couches! I like how they look like tailored pillows with the tufting and all. (tufting? is that what it’s called? you know what i mean!)

my husband would probably kill me for this, but here it is, and being put to good use! http://tiny.cc/orlapillow

I thought about doing something with one of the table cloths. This is inspiring, now I’ll have to do.

How funny! I made pillows out of my Orla Kiely tablecloths too cause I loved the print and had to have it. I knew I would never use it on the table cause I would be bummed once it got a spot.

P.S. Mandy & Grace

I don’t think the tablecloths were ever sold online…because when I saw the ceramic canisters online I went to Target to get them and then I discovered the tablecloths.

whoa – i was just at target yesterday and passed by these very same Orla Kiely tablecloths on an end cap. i wanted to snatch one up so bad but the colors didn’t match the colors in my kitchen, i didnt even think about repurposing it.

in fact i saw quite a few items such as bedding sets and rugs that looked almost thomas paul-esque in hues of green and mushroom that were just gorgeous. if only i had $$$ to burn!!!

A bit off topic – but is there anyway to get the name of that gorgeous paint color in the background?
