kate pruitt (who is one of our diy editors here at d*s) recently updated her blog and i’ve been drooling over some of the pieces she’s posted recently. at the top of my list of the work of carolyn salas. when i saw the rug made of carpet foam at the bottom my jaw hit the floor. while i try to find it somewhere under the couch, you can click here to browse the rest of her incredible installations.

OK, the rug, rah rah cool but is anyone else absolutely entranced by that bizarre deer with the tree branchesqe antlers? I’m just waiting to see a bird fly in and land on one and start building a nest or something. It’s brilliant!

Wow, carpet foam is easily torn, and a little difficult to cut with precision. I am amazed at the details.

I guess that deer would be the most desired male around if he were in the forest.

Its cool to see two totally different pieces from the same artist. The rug is mind blowing visually but the incredible effort required to piece together the whole from sections of foam is the real mind blower.

That deer might be one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Do you think I could fit it into my little New York apartment?

I agree with Jenny….really cool rug, BUT that deer is,….hmmm, I’m trying to think of an appropriate adjective here. Amazing and spectacular just dont seem to do it justice. By the way, we bought a cabin in the mountains that came complete with a wall full of dead animals. (ick….but I’m getting attached to the squirrel) The deer head is going to become a “ring toss” game. My first thought when I saw THIS deer was “ring toss Olympics”. Form AND function. I hope this doesnt sound dis- respectful to the artist. this is a great sculptural piece.

I love the antlers! What a funny take on the old idea.
