sneak peek: pam zsori of ink and peat

pampeek11
our next portland sneak peek comes to us from pam zsorsi of the beautiful blog housemartin, and the home and floral store ink and peat. the 1924 craftsman style home in portland, oregon she shares with her boyfriend is constantly being updated and adapted. the organic modern style makes it easy to mix vintage and modern pieces to the neutral pallette in their home (also making it easy to mix and match, because as an “accessorizer” nothing stays in the same place for long). and of course, their house wouldn’t be complete without flowers. [thanks, pam!] -anne

[above: This is our bedroom.  I love the grey and coral color story here - I guess I like to play with feminine and masculine color combos.  The bed and side tables are from Room & Board, mercury lamps and grey quilted duvet from West Elm, shams from Kerry Cassill, throw pillow from Sharon Spain, coral quilt from ABC Home and Carpet. The vintage seaweed prints are framed in simple unfinished wood.]

Here’s our dining room with a great built-in hutch. I like to arrange tall branches here – peach blossoms right now and mossy branches in the fall. The striped painting is by Marshall – all greens and mocha tones. That is my collection of vintage 1940’s pottery – housed in a vintage linen cabinet from Indonesia. I have had this Lotta Jansdotter table runner for years and still love it by . The white dot votives are from West Elm. clearly I can’t get enough of green.

pampeek41
This is our living room – I like these mossballs to add a punch of color to the room. They work well with the wool felt leaf and green dot pillows from Hable Construction and linen pillow from local designer Elisabeth Bentz. The stools are also from Hable – great when extra guests come over. On the mantel – an abstract painting by Marshall, a Staghorn fern, and a collection of handmade pottery by Judy Jackson.

pampeek51
Our porch – great on summer evenings.

Now we’re in the totally redone kitchen. We wanted it to match the character of the house but still feel current. We have repro lighting from Schooolhouse Electric and white quartzite countertops (they look like marble but behave more like granite – easy care). Notice there is more display up top for vintage pottery. I love our sweet little nook off the kitchen – just big enough for a food pantry and  this vintage enamel breakfast table.

The bird paintings are by Amy Ruppel.

One of my favorite sneaks peeks ever! such a lovely cozy home! I love how it subtly incorporates some Asian decor in such a contemporary “New Englandish” style. Exceptionally inspirational! :)

I love the uniformity of the ceramic collections- and the pops of color around the house. Nicely done!

I live in a ‘28 craftsman in Salem Oregon and I’m ALWAYS looking for good design ideas that don’t ignore the natural beauty of my home… This is one of my favorite sneak peeks ever ;-) I *especially* love her dining room.

Can you tell more about the kitchen cabinets, such as: are they original to the house? If not, where are they from? Beautiful home!

Love the pictures over the bed. I like how they are multiple ones together but match so well. They make a kind of headboard.

March 9th, 2009 - 3:46 pm

Wow, I really love the way the prints in the first photo are hung together! [The prints themselves are great, too.] It’s the sort of thing that could look contrived but really works here.

Pam, I’m curious about that trio of metal and wood nesting tables in the corner of your dining room. Where are they from?

Absolutely gorgeous! I have to ask as I never see this addressed–how do you artfully hide the alarm clock in the bedroom? I never see an alarm clock in any well decorated bedroom and I like to think its just hidden somewhere really good.

Pam said:
March 10th, 2009 - 12:27 pm

hi all! thanks for all the lovely comments. Now for the questions:
-the set of reclaimed wood nesting tables is from a guy in Pennsylvania – I bought at Brimfield – no other contact info
- the green paint in the kitchen is Ben Moore – 2147-50 Pale Sea Mist – looks more yellow than in these pics
-the sofa is from Crate and Barrel – but looks like they don’t make it anymore
- the kitchen cabinets are from De Wils – http://www.dewils.com/
they are semi-custom – they have a rep come out and measure and use preset sizes to fit into your space – then we had them painted
-the birdcage is from the Homeport – trade only
http://www.thpcollections.com/
-my staghorn is only 1 month old so thats why it looks so good
-no mystery on the alarm clock – everyone just takes them out of the shot when photographing – same with TV’s – you never see a tv in a mag, right? ; )
