the 1920s craftsman abode of kelley lilien of pink dot press is warm (thanks to huge picture windows in almost every room), inviting (kelley’s style added to great bones of the house) and definitely kid friendly (a space that invites play). the sunroom of this san diego home acts as the home to pink dot press, but also a playroom for the kids, so i can’t help but wonder how much the kids inspire her designs… thanks, kelley! click here if you’re looking for more sneak peek inspiration and just click “read more” below for additional and full-sized images after the jump! -anne
[above: My preferred palate is a stark white canvas - it's my go to color for just about everything. When I was pregnant with my son, my husband was panicked that he'd be color blind since out entire house was predominantly and obsessively dressed up in all white. And although I am captivated by white spaces, I am happy to report that I love nothing more than to punch them up with splashes of color. It's excellent for re-inventing and always lends it's self to a clean and crisp look. Most people think I'm nuts to insist on white furniture and little kids - thinking the combo is lethal - on the contrary, it's great - everything is completely washable and bleach is truly one of my favorite products! The couch has been with us for almost seven years - it was originally royal blue [ew!] and I slaved over a custom slipcover that fits like a glove in white canvas, or course. Every time I think ‘this couch has kicked the bucket…’ I throw the slipcovers in the wash with a cup of bleach and wha lah – good as new! Yellow ikat area rug – pottery barn. Nesting coffee tables constructed of wine boxes – mi-workshop, chair: mitchel gold. Pillows ruby + stella, kalla, ikea. ]
I have a wild obsession with decorating in a very celebratory fashion, big bursts of color and whimsy - I’m sure it goes hand in hand with being in the business of designing for parties and ornate celebrations. I love the look of a little bit of drama – as if there is a secret little party going on all the time – and for no good reason, just cause. I love clustering eclectic pieces mixing vintage with modern – it’s intriguing and exciting to see a mishmash come together. Mercury birds : west elm. Family photos : urban baby.
This is a great coffee table and fully equipped with baskets for your storing pleasure – in this table’s baskets are toys – and lots of them. The table now has to wear a cloth at ALL times. We had an unfortunate accident with a ‘run way’ and well, after all the planes had safely landed and the ‘run way’ was removed – along with it came nice long strips of the tables paint! I’d LOVE to get my hands on it once I have a free weekend and really do a number on it, but until then table cloths it is! Table cloth: crate & barrel.

A warm ‘hello’ most certainly deserves a warm goodbye. When hightailing it out of the house – there’s always something wishing you well. . . My dad made us our dining table. It’s a trestle table made out of African Sipili wood and it’s beautiful. The top has an almost mirror like finish – and thank goodness for it because both kids have certainly put it to the test! refurbished classroom chairs – vintage, drinking glass : fishs eddie — a MUST visit every time I’m in New York – I absolutely LOVE everything in that store.
