as i’m writing this guide it is pouring down rain here in brooklyn and all i can do is yell at the television for not voting that kooky megan joy girl off of american idol. i mean seriously, seriously? not even in the bottom three? if alexis had to go, megan should be on her way out. ac suggested that she’d be perfect for a band like the squirrel nut zippers and right now i’d like to see her leave american idol for something more like that. so as i try to calm myself down i’m focusing on the sound of the rain on our fire escape. the relaxing sound of water steadily hitting metal has finally brought me back down to earth and gave me an idea for today’s under $100 topic: umbrella stands. many of you have been requesting a guide to umbrella stands for a while now so i figured this would be a great place to focus my budget-attention this week. interestingly, many of the cool umbrella stands were over $100, so i’ve included a few (just a few!) stands that are around $150, but the majority are still safely under $100. i don’t know why anyone would need to pay more than $100 for an umbrella stand, but if you want to- there some pretty interesting ones out there. in the meantime, i hope you’ll enjoy the selection.

These umbrella stands could not have come at a better time. We had pretty heavy rain all night here and had our umbrellas laying in the tub to dry out. Some of these great designs we will be looking into. That hand-painted umbrella holder is beautiful (I hope it’s not made in China)

I love this post! I’ve actually bought two cute full-size umbrellas in the last year, specifically with the intention of displaying them in an umbrella stand, but haven’t found “the one” yet – there are some great options here.

Iv’e also been thinking lately about about getting a roomy umbrella stand that would fit my skis and poles. I don’t have a good place in my little condo right now to store my skis, and I think a cute stand could be a fun way to intentionally keep them out.

Aww Grace, you so totally surprised me, I LOVE Megan!!!!! I agree, she’s picking terrible songs right now and HAS to get her act together NOW, before it’s too late. But to say she deserves to go seems a bit premature. Now Adam Lambert on the other hand…I cringe just writing his name…

oh i love adam! he’s totally over the top, but he’s such a good singer. megan drives me nuts. i loved her at first- she’s beautiful, she’s friendly, she’s quirky. but i think that all wore off when she started doing that arm swinging dance and singing like, well…like she sings. her voice would be great for a quirky band, but american idol is soo not her place. i think people are being swayed by her looks or personality or something. or this site is at work again: http://votefortheworst.com/

My husbands family used to own a burial vault company in Miami (what the casket goes inside of when buried) What I use for an umbrella stand is a miniature version (a funeral home display sample) of a vault with one corner cut out so you could see the construction….guaranteed not to leak! Its the most fun at halloween when I put it on the front porch with a stuffed Dracula coming out of it.

Oh – and on the idol front – I’m torn on the Megan Joy thing. I loved her in the audition and in the beginning, and I think she’s adorable and can even make an armful of tattoos look hot. However, she has been wearing off and needs a good week if she wants to stick around. (Also, Adam = amazing.) great post! and one would think an absolute necessity here in portland, but i find that most don’t use an umbrella but rather prefer the rain gear route…but nothing beats a super cute umbrella in a lovely welly porcelain vase!

i need to give in and by an umbrella stand…it always seems like their so expansive for what they are, but these are super cute. and the fact i can never find an umbrella when i need it…i think it’s time.

I love this site its great I want nearly all of the umbrella stands….. in fairness I have a larger collection than most of umbrellas … so maybe I can without feeling guilty purchase more than one!!
