before and after: faizura’s mirror + christine’s dresser

mirrorbefore1
it’s before & after day i wanted to kick things off with a few pieces that showcase the power of a subtle paint job. the first is from faizura of dear wednesday- she repainted this rather generic looking jewelry mirror with a coat of bright teal paint and then outlined the edges in black. i love the effect the black lining gives the piece. then, because she wanted to take it an extra step, faizura replaced the mirror with a black velvet backing and turned her mirror into a custom jewelry organizer. great work, faizura! (thanks to her sister fairuz for passing this on!)

next up is a project from the lovely christine chitnis- you may remember her lovely providence home right here, or her entry in the lena corwin pattern contest. christine transformed her dresser with a coat of dove gray paint, new knobs from anthropologie and drawer liner paper for an extra kick. great work, christine!

[have a before & after you'd like to share on d*s? just shoot me an email right here with your pictures!]

Hey does anyone know where to find that adorable lion print above the dresser? My cousin is having a baby and is incorporating jungle animals into the room. Thanks!

Deb, I’m pretty sure that’s a Creative Thursday print. You can find her on Etsy.

Open Question for anyone: Would you have to sand a dresser like that first- or can you just apply the pain directly?

Fruedian slip? ” painT”. (with a T, not pain.)

Love the dresser!
Reese, I have refinished some furniture before, and I would say yes, sand first, it helps the paint to adhere better.
I have a question, does anyone know where that lamp came from? I have been trying to find some exactly like that for a few months now!

i didn’t think i was going to like the dresser, because the before showed such a great piece – but i love the after! colour, hardware, it all works. very nice job!

Katrina – it’s at Crate and Barrel. It’s the Optic Sea Glass table lamp.

Hi everyone! Thank you for the sweet comments. To answer a few questions:

1. The prints above the dresser are from Creative Thursday, you can find her on etsy.

2. The lamp is indeed from Crate and Barrel and it is called the Optic Sea Glass table lamp- very good ‘hsp’!

3. The dresser is painted with Ralph Lauren’s Atlantic Winter (matched and mixed in C2 lo-vo paint)

4. Definitely sand any furniture that you are going to paint (i recommend an electric sander). You need to remove any and all varnish and smooth out any flaws in the wood.

Hope that helps!

Christine, after looking at your dresser, I’m thinking of giving my sister’s chest of drawers a brand new look =)
