diy wednesdays: scrap lumber coffee table

table1since we just got back from a wonderful trip to savannah, (congratulations again grace and aaron!) this week’s project needed to be super easy and super quick—something we could crank out after working all day at the shoppe. looking around our apartment, we spotted a scrap piece of walnut that we had picked up at a neighbor’s sidewalk sale a few days before we left. we had no idea what we’d do with it, but we’ve learned to never say no to pretty lumber. a quick trip to the hardware store for legs and paint, and voila, we’ve got ourselves a lovely new coffee table.

have fun!

CLICK HERE for the full instructions.

here’s what you’ll need:
a piece of nice wood (ours was 16” x 38”)
4 screw-in table legs (ours were 16” early american style)
4 straight top plate hardware mounts
paint (we used a glossy yellow spray paint)
power drilltable2

1. paint your table legs, putting 2-3 coats of paint on each leg.
2. mount the leg hardware 1.5” in from each side of the table, pre-drilling holes if necessary.
3. screw in the 4 legs.

I love this table! And even more so I love the couch’s pattern! A perfect pairing!

Wow, who knew you could just throw together a coffee table so quickly? My boyfriend actually made one last year and used the angled leg brackets, which I kind of prefer to the straight ones. Either way, looks great!

Great table! I love big hunks of really good solid wood. Can’t wait to try it for myself.

In this economy, we need as much DIY usable furniture as possible- I love it, it’s adorable

I love it! I made my coffee table with those screw in legs and a piece of plywood. Nice.

I’d like to know what the sofa fabric is and where to get it!

i keep thinking about something similar to this project but find myself wishing that thin shaker-style tapered legs would be sold at these hardware stores. at least my local ones don’t have them. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I need to know:
- where can I find the yellow bowl??
- what’s the name of the fabric on that sofa??

This looks amazing, btw!

Veganexplosion: The yellow bowl is Cathrineholm (midcentury Scandinavian enamelware). Try eBay or etsy. I too am a fan of these designs but find they’re a little too pricy for my meager budget!

What are some good resources, or stores, to find pieces of wood of that nature? Or is our best bet to buy a plank of wood and stain/varnish it ourselves?

Thanks! :-)

i got my legs and mounting hardware online at acehardwareoutlet.com for under $20. i called around to several hardware stores in my fairly large city and couldn’t find anything readily in stock.

I believe these are Waddell legs, and I found a set at Lowes. They have 4 sets of legs available – 2 screw on, and 2 that need corner brackets and a skirt on the table. Hope that helps!
