more paint chips + canadian interiors

3442147335_dab14e54c6_b
last week scott’s home depot paint chip wall stirred up quite the heated discussion so this week i thought i’d share another version of this idea, in honor of today’s diy theme.

inspired by scott’s project, d*s reader tracy in yorba linda decided to create this paint chip backdrop for her television set. but rather than mod podge as a sticking agent, she used quake hold putty to keep the strips in place. i love her spin on the project and how it brings out the colors on the tv screen. great work, tracy! I can’t help but notice in this post(happily, I might add), the trend towards hardwood tables with contemporary seating.
Yesterday the blog showcased 2 versions of that look in the Jill Dupre designed interiors for the Fingers and herself.
Does this mean we can look forward to fewer spray paint jobs over rather nice hardwood tables?

I love the (child’s?) room with the pouf and the banners hanging above….it’s very whimsy and bright.

Playing with fire posting those paint chips again Grace…I love it :)
And those tiny cute paintings in the children’s room have me intrigued. They are beautifully arranged I wish I could see them closer up!

i know it irks some people, but i still think it’s lovely.

also, spoke with my PR contacts at a few major paint companies and they said they know things like this happen, but not often enough to put a dent in their paint chip budgets- and that the stores that carry the chips don’t pay for them. it’s built into the paint company’s budget. obviously if everyone started taking thousands of these it would be a problem, but i just feel like most people won’t want to take the time to glue a few thousand of anything on their walls.

but we’ll see…if i start hearing from paint companies saying they’re going broke because of things like this i’ll be the first to do a post asking people not to do this anymore. ;)

I love the table…are those beveled mirrored legs or just seriously shiny chrome? I love it with the rustic top, abstract painting and ornate chandelier. I have a (very) old door in my shed begging for such a re-purposing.

I LOVED the paint chip idea! I wish I could do it on one of my walls, but my land lord would kick me out . . . people need to be more adventurous in decorating;)

Yeah, personally I wouldnt do it as it just reminds me of something I would have done as a teenager and later regretted! Does have a certain coolness factor but Id imagine it would start looking pretty tacky very soon as bits start falling off and bending at the corners. As for the “theft” issue, I think its not a real issue to take a few extra free samples, the world has much bigger problems we should worry about with the time that we have!

Hah! I just read the comments on the other paint chip-decor post. Scott is my new hero. I feel like robbing a Pantone chip factory just to one-up him.

Also: painted wood & raw wood can play happily together, and both have their place (sometimes the same place!). Is there any reason why we have to pick between the two? As a lover of wood in general, I’m baffled by the continual resistance to paint ing it. Should we stop painting the exteriors of all wood houses, too?

p.s. Avril, I think that’s just chrome (not mirrors).

The pennants are fabulous. And I too love the table–the whole room in fact!

When I was younger I would go to the the hardware store with my dad every weekend. While he was gathering supplies I could be found in the paint isle pulling the paint chips whose color I liked and would put them in my pocket. Too bad my mom threw them away I could have used them for a project! It’s brilliant because you can use crazy colors that might otherwise not work!
