sneak peek: madeley of chick print

madeley1

after another fabulous week of great sneak peeks, today we’re rounding out the week with the home of madeley of chick print. her two little girls clearly play just as influential role in the house decor as she does- i adore how their artwork has made it into the “gallery” walls of the home. if you haven’t seen them, don’t miss madeley’s customizable silhouettes in her etsy shop, and don’t miss her full sneak peek with more after the jump. [thanks, madeley!] -anne

[in madeley's words: My background is in interiors, so i am naturally obsessed with my home. There is nothing fancy about my home, in fact most piece were either found on the street or salvaged from thrift shops. I am a "junk" collector who can't contain herself. In my opinion almost all objects have potential if you know what to do with them.]

Our space is alway evolving for this reason, and even more so with two little girls whose artwork has taken over most of our walls.

I love the fact that the house still has walls that are empty and some old bookshelves turned on their sides to act as short shelf units. For me its a potential free space to bring in that next fabulous piece i stumble into on the street or a flea market.

I fully understand the mind set of collecting, once you start it evolves. Great house and wonderful etsy shop.

I love this! I’m always trying to get just this balance of pretty but not too pretty and child friendliness with livability.

Kids friendly rooms! Hurray! Thank you for showing really lovely rooms that smaller children can enjoy too!

I for one appreciate the wall colors choices. I also dig the cool little chairs by the book shelf as well as the children’s art work framed above the couch. Looks fantastic!

I love this, except I don’t like the way that the bed & crib are placed in the children’s room. It seems a bit awkward.

Oooh, I love this. Questions:

1) Are those ribbons for the drawer pulls?
2) If so, did you make them?
3) If so so, HOW? Might be great for a Wednesday DIY.

What’s the pink paint? Looks like what I’m looking for for my daughter’s room – not too bubblegummy!

Gina – Cut ribbon. Stick in holes. Tie knots on the inside to prevent ribbon from slipping out.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! And thank you to Grace and Anne for showing my home!

I wanted to answer some of your questions…

Bed is “Case Study”

White baskets are from Land of Nod

Rug in the girls bedroom was purchased in Morocco. We took our eldest daughter there for her first birthday…so it’s a very special rug I hope she will always lug around with her wherever life takes her.

The ribbon used as drawer pulls was taken from recycled ribbon we had saved from wedding gifts. This was a perfect way to add a bit of uniqueness to an otherwise very plain dresser. Rebecca (see her comment above) explained very well how to put the ribbons on the drawers.

The paint in the girls room is a pale pink from Benjamin Moore in gloss. The rooms are dark since we lived in the basement apartment…so the gloss adds a little shine to reflect more light. Wish i had saved the color #! Sorry.

Lastly, the bed and crib layout. I agree with the comment that it is not the most sensible layout, but it is the best layout in a tight room, as there is lots of open space in the middle of the girls room to play and entertain friends.

Thanks again!
Madeley

I love the way the art is hung. I’m such a stooge at this. I get all nervous.

What a great house! You’ve inspired me to get some frames for my kids’ artwork and throw it into the mix. Also, you have fantastic taste in wall color. I love them all! Could you please let us know what the colors are (I know there are many, but I especially love the pink in girls’ room and the office color).

Great home! What is the color of what looks like your master bedroom? –the soft gold/yellow??- it was the one with the dresser with some vases on top and a black & white picture above.

i totally agree, my only question is, how do you stop your house from turning into a junk yard!!

Love your home!!!
