Museum of Pocket Art

When I was first brainstorming about what I wanted to feature during my week of guest blogging, I sent out an e-mail to some of my favorite artists and designer friends. The first person I heard back from is my uber-talented and sweet cousin, Josh Keller. He is just finishing up his Masters of Fine Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute after working for years as an architect in various cities. We spent a summer together in San Francisco and I will never forget his fabulous house in the Castro where he and his roommates would rotate rooms monthly—one room was pretty standard, another huge but with low-ceilings and only a bathtub (no shower) and the last one was basically this beautiful but small garden room separate from the house in the backyard! Anyway, Josh sent over a project his friend started a few years ago in Austin, TX:The Museum of Pocket Art. Started based on a belief that everyone should always carry with them a small piece of artwork to share and inspire others. :MOPAtook this idea and ran, creating four shows a year, full of work that is usually about the size of a business card. All the work is archived on-line and their current show is Minor Landscapes. Love how a community of artists can find each other and also wholeheartedly agree that we could all use more art in our lives, art of all sizes! (Thank you Josh and Congrats! I will forever associate you with Pimms and warm summer evenings.)

This post has completely inspired me to begin doing alot more artwork again…I’ve been so caught up in moving and job hunting I’ve forgotten to go back to my passion and enjoy the simple arts. This is such a cool idea. love it

Josh is a wonderful individual and artist. Thank you josh for mentioning MOPA. But what he forgot to tell you was that he was the previous show before Minor landscapes. Please see his work at http://www.mopaonline.com/ImmediateThought.html
