revival home & garden is known for marrying modern style with the glossy sophistication of hollywood regency design with their chic, yet reasonably priced furniture and accessories. leah steen is a co-owner and founder of the home decor boutique in seattle (psst – they’re moving soon so check out their 30% of sale), and is also the star of our latest sneak peek. the home she shares with her husband and two young daughters is a 1,300 square foot 1900-era cottage is seattle’s oldest neighborhood. leah has always had a passion for texiles and it’s fun to see all the creative ways she’s reimagined vintage and modern pieces in her home (and shop). don’t miss more images right here here. [in leah's words: My decor is a combination of lingering '90s-era Ligne Roset leftovers, Hollywood glam, and Ikea. (She's working hard to phase out most of the first and last categories!) Vintage pieces and family hand-me-downs are sprinkled throughout and are among her most-loved treasures. Between the kids and my two lively dogs, I learned the hard way about what is and isn't durable, so solid linen upholstery has given way to ostrich-print vinyls and indoor-outdoor fabrics, which I secretly like better, anyway.]

Finally (thanks to a tidy little tax rebate) I am tackling some long-neglected projects: modern toile wallcovering and a custom banquette in the kitchen, giant painted chevrons in the entry and wide horizontal stripes in the bath, reupholstery of “new” vintage furnishings in the Living Room, and some much-needed love for her Master Bedroom. These days I am all about color and prints on all surfaces visible to the naked eye. (Watch out, doggies!)

Though I sometimes feels like the living embodiment of the expression about the cobbler’s kids going without shoes, I know that everyone’s home is a work in progress, and putting off all those interior projects has allowed me to build a successful business and focus on my two young kids. Stay tuned for some fabulous “after” photos in a few months!

Love this home – especially the cameo collection! Also – I see a red vintage patterned rug in the living room – all my favourite sneak peeks have one of these bad boys! Need to get me one of them…

Love those green walls (and all the other colour, too). I just painted a room in a similar colour and was a bit unsure, but now I feel better and have some great ideas for accents. Ooh, and polka dots. Love ‘em.

I MUST know where I can find that amaaazing sofa! If it’s vintage I just may cry.

I’m moving and have been looking for something just like it, but unfortunately everything I’ve found has been level with the back and have not had arm rests. I love this sneak peek!

I love everything Leah has done in her home. It’s a somewhat small space but doesn’t feel like it when you’re inside. Plus her gardens are amazing and it’s like having additional rooms outside.

You can get the butterfly mobile at Pottery Barn Kids. We just got one at the Saturday Market in Portland, OR for about 1/3 of the PBK price though, so you might want to try Etsy for something similar.

Hey, everyone… It’s Leah, owner of the home in question, as well as Revival Home & Garden in Seattle. Thanks so much for all the positive comments–what a great way to start the day!

Let me jump in and try to address everyone’s questions:

1. The tufted sofa IS vintage and IS available for purchase. Truthfully, it needs to be recovered (tears and staining are abundant) and had been sitting in my garage for a number of months. We recently acquired a much smaller sofa (and re-oriented the entire room, but that’s a post for another day), so the sofa you see is up for grabs. 2. The wonderful paper butterfly mobile in my youngest daughter’s room is from, of all places, Pottery Barn Kids. They call it a “butterfly chandelier” or something. Even though it was probably assembled by a 6-year-old in Indonesia, I love it so much!

3. The colorful baskets in the kids’ rooms are indeed from Land of Nod and come in all sorts of great colors.

4. Artwork: the piece in the kitchen is the first “real” piece of art I ever purchased (about 15 years ago), and I paid for it through layaway, I wanted it so badly. It’s by a wonderful Seattle artist named Geoff Garza.

The piece over my older daughter’s bed is by a dear friend and former colleague at my old design firm named Rebecca Jack, who now lives in Atlanta. She worked from photos I provided and came up with the concept on her own, but I couldn’t have been more thrilled. If you’re interested in contacting Rebecca about a commission, let me know and I can put you in touch with her.

5. The houndstooth throw can be purchased from our shop; they’re from this great company called in2green, made from post-consumer recycled cotton. We have the navy/white in stock currently on sale for $87.50! Drop me a line if you want one…they come in other colors as well, and patterns like zebra, batik, etc.

6. The chrome stools are from one of our vendors as well, though I bought them ages ago and would have to do a small bit of research to get pricing info for you. Again, if anyone’s interested, drop me a line and I’ll e-mail you all the particulars.

7. Kitchen table. This a funny one. We had a round Eames table from DWR ensconced there, purchased years ago in our apartment days. The table was the completely wrong size and shape for our nook, but we made it work, mainly due to lack of time to research the RIGHT table. One day I came home from work and the round top was gone, and the rectangle you see above was there….my husband had cut a piece of wood and screwed it onto the Eames base. What I really want is a custom rectangular Carrera marble top on a Saarinen base, paired with a built-in banquette. We’re hoping to make at least the banquette part a reality shortly.

I love how this house seems so real and relatable. Sometimes, I see houses that just depress me because I don’t think I’d ever be able to live like that–even the diy, budget, vintagey ones–but this is so bright and pretty and full of personality.

Great design, Leah. I am in Seattle, too! It’s so nice to see such bold and brilliant use of color in our town! :)

I have a butterfly mobile for our baby room, too… It’s a Flensted.

I discovered the company on a visit to Scandinavia a couple of years ago–I was seriously in search of design inspiration!
