Papier Maché

p5thanks
We wanted to thank Grace, once again for including us in her world of design. It truly has been an honour and we’ve really enjoyed our time here, sharing our ideas and passions with you all. We hope that you’ve enjoyed it, too; perhaps, even taken something away from this week. (photo by perfectbound)

For our final post, we decided to revisit papier maché. Typically, the thought of papier maché brings to mind balloons and bowls covered in strips of newspaper. The game has
changed since those elementary school days! We’ve gathered our favourite papier maché pieces for you today. It’s amazing what you can do with a little paper and paste: craft and recycle at the same time.

Up in the Air Somewhere is the work of Susan Dwyer. The name itself couldn’t be any more appropriate. The aesthetics of the pieces and even her website have a certain uncomplicated beauty about them. Airy and light. We only ever hear good things about her work as you can see why, with the stunning textural quality of her pieces combined with yellows, blush pinks and golds.

Stray Dog Designs has a shop full of papier maché goodies. From home furnishings to accessories, you can find that one great piece everyone needs. Handmade and hand painted in Haiti in a range of colourful low VOC paints, there really isn’t any reason not to feel good about one of their pieces! Who ever thought a papier maché table could be so pretty?

And for good measure, we wanted to include these lovely papier maché birds, from Viva Terra, and bangles, available from The Museum Shop of the Art Institute of Chicago.
There really is no limit to the things you can create. So don’t throw out that morning paper! Whip up some papier maché paste and see what you come up with.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for those of you who commented. Don’t forget to keep in touch! You can find us at our blog and on Flickr.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

The artichoke lamps are so fun, it would be hard to chose which color to chose. I’d want them all!

I do love papier mache…. I’m doing a project with it on a mirror right now! So many beautiful papers and even fabrics you can work with now!

We’re holding a paper mache crafty session with two three-year-old-boys …why do I have a feeling that nothing will be this beautiful. Dare to dream, though …right?
