it was the dream of nicky crowley of pulp creative to have a totally nordic inspired home, but instead this australian jokes that she got sidetracked by the bohemian art student that lives deep inside of her. there are very few pieces in her home that she and her husband have bought new, but most have been collected from thrift shops, markets, friends and the side of the road. not surprisingly, these are are their favorite and most characteristic pieces in the house. it also helps that she co-owns a great, creative shop in sydney and can bring home great wares to finish off the spaces. there’s lots more to see from nicky’s home, so don’t miss additional images here, or click here to find more inspiration from all our sneak peeks.[thanks, nicky!] -anne

I bought the old 1970’s mustard rocker from our local Vinnies, a friend dropped by a few days later and asked where we got it from. When I told him, he was devastated… He had bought the exact chair a few days before, he took it home and his girlfriend made him take it straight back. She thought it was the ugliest thing she’d ever seen and there was no way it was staying in their house. We love it even more now. The chest of drawers and side table were found on the side of the road. Treasure!

The phone seat was purchased from a trift store in Brisbane while I was at Uni, before mobiles were around many moons ago.

The 60’s lounge and the retro Chiswell dining table and Parker chairs were from a sharp 85 year old woman who was being shipped off to a nursing home. She threw the couch in for free! We had it reupholstered as close to the original fabric as possible. Illustrations on the wall are tear out posters of feature artists which
appear in the “best” monthly Australian fashion/lifestyle magazine call “Frankie”. Paper balls in corner are simple Chinese lanterns in various sizes.

Deer heads and black horse lamp are from our shop and two of our best online sellers. The stencil artwork on calico is from a an old friend of ours call Rob
Mcleish, who also happens to be a great young Melbourne artist.

Quilt over the couch was found at a garage sale. It is 50 years old and made from scraps collected by a the owner while working in an upholstery factory.

Boys room: Bunks from ikea. Blankets from Vinnies (thrift store). Vinyl monster stickers from our shop. Fletcher bunting a gift from my sister custom made in Bangalo – near Byron Bay. Indian head pieces from Cotton On.

We landscaped the whole garden ourselves. It’s mostly native and drought tolerant to suit the Aussie climate… Except the cherry blossom, we just love them.

Office: Desk was also free from the same 85 year old that sold me the dining table & chairs.

Boys room: I have a small but serious addiction to kids books. I just can’t stop accumulating them. New, old, it doesn’t matter, but it’s something my boys benefit from. Oliver Jeffers and my old Dr Seuss Snow book my mum found from 1976 are some of my favourites at them moment. Above the books is Japanese fabric designer Etsuko Furuya’s Leopard on aqua. This was purchased from an amazing online fabric store called www.kelanifabric.com.au. Vinyl monster stickers from our shop.

And to nina and Lydia, they are not still selling those lovely tree pillows from Ikea. I know because I had two of them until my naughty, naughty dog ripped them up. I tried to replace them, but alas, they’d been discontinued. I weep for them anew each time I see them on D*S and Apartment Therapy.

This house inspires me. I love everything about it….especially the chinese lantern fixture. What an inexpensive way to dress up a room. I’m definately going to do this in my one of my bedrooms.

Hi guys, thanks for checking out our house and yes the tree/coral covers are from Ikea a few years ago. The bed is sled style from Freedom.

The whole of the interior of the house is painted “arctic white” and the boys green wall is call “grasshopper”… I made it up at the paint counter!
