sunday suppers + amy atlas

sundaysuppers_amyatlas_new_web
i’m a huge fan of sunday suppers, so i’m always anxiously awaiting their next table to see who, and what, is cooking. this week sunday suppers is featuring a vibrant table by amy atlas, custom designed for their moroccan dinner. i love the rich blues and oranges that amy used and the incredible patterns, backdrop and paper designs from erica bohanon of thoughtful day.

ali kantor of papery and cakery created a traditional moroccan cookie called kaab el ghazal, which served as a favor for the guests to take home in goodie bags designed by erica. and that incredible cake? that’s the work of archana rao of love street cakes. and as if there weren’t enough delicious-looking sweets, aran goyoaga of cannelle et vanille (who is our “in the kitchen with subject today!) created the delicious pastries below. and last but certainly not least, jessie weidinger of rountree created the lovely floral arrangements. oh what i would give to be a guest at that table- it’s as much as feast for the stomach as it is for the eyes. I’ll take one of each! Fabulous color combo, and the treats are delicious looking. I’m glad they are only on the screen, if they were in person, I’d eat them all!

Although this table is beautiful, it doesn’t look particularly Moroccan to me. The only Moroccan elements that I can discern are the traditional cookie favors and the tea/drink cups. The cake design looks much more South Asian than Northern African. The tablescape overall looks like a modern interpretation of generalized “Eastern” design. It’s very beautiful, but I think calling it Moroccan is a stretch.

I want to go to there.

And my birthday party is planned. I’m totally stealing this color scheme.
