Hello everyone! This is Re Jin (or RJ!) from Bailey Doesn’t Bark. I create and sell essential daily wares with fun designs! I am very excited (and very nervous) to be guest blogging for Design Sponge after all these amazing previous guests. I will carry on the “guest blogger” torch with pride. Thank you for having me Grace!
Through out this week I will be sharing with you designs and products inspired by a few of everyone’s favorite fairy tale heroines!
The Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen’s ending of The Little Mermaid is quite bitter sweet – yet beautiful. The prince marries a princess. (The mermaid) not being able to bring herself to kill the prince in order to become a mermaid again, “She cast one more lingering, half-fainting glance at the prince, and then threw herself from the ship into the sea, and thought her body was dissolving into foam.” The mermaid dies and becomes a “daughter of the air”: a spirit who will earn eternal soul by doing good deeds for hundreds of years to enter the kingdom of heaven.

“The Little Mermaid” Edmund Dulac
In the 1989 Walt Disney’s version of The Little Mermaid, (mermaid) Ariel and (prince) Eric marry and live happily ever after!

“The Little Mermaid” Walt Disney movie
If “Ariel” existed today, I believe she’d be longing for the sea waters. Due to her busy life tending to her castle, husband and children she would not find time to visit the ocean as often as she’d like. I think bathtubs would help ease her yearnings for the sea.
