Those chairs are amazing! However, I am not sure about the prices she’s selling them for in her etsy store. I think it’s a little over the top considering that the chairs she starts with are second hand.

I really love the combo of bright backsplash and subtle wallpaper. It looks fantastic! I think I may steal the look for an old pair of wooden steps I’m using as a display:)

The only place that chair would feel at home is in a ‘Betsy Johnson’ retail store.
Regarding the kitchen…great color pallet but you realestate agent may ask you to ‘make it less personal.’

The “make it less personal” comment in interesting- that never occurred to me. The people buying in our neighbourhood are all dual income, no kids, young buyers- and there’s under 1% vacancy here. I figure that something modern works for that audience.

Ultimately, cooking in the kitchen is way more fun now & we’re not looking to sell. I’m just glad the 1980’s panels & bee stencils are gone!

Re making your space less personal – plenty of time to do that when you’re ready to move to another home. I had my small house interior painted white with ecru trim when I was ready to let it go, for around $1000.

I adore these chair makeover posts! Keep them coming! And a ‘how to” post would be most welcome.

That chair would go perfect in my living room with my DWR sofa and Corbusier lounge! It’s all about what else is in the space and the final room.

I look at this blog to see people’s homes and ideas, not how to stage for resale. I deal with that enough in my profession! Even though it’s not my style, I can take that wallpaper idea and run with it in a way that is.

I’m still afraid to tackle my kitchen. What to do with Pepto Bismal pink plastic wall tiles?! Paint them? Destroy them? Relish in the vintage kitsch?

Now that chair…. that chair is my sense of lovely, whistle-through-the-day color.

This whole real estate HGTV movement to depersonalize a home is bunk. Most home buyers are looking for a home to look fresh and clean, well maintained and clutter free. A sterile and bland house does not project a feeling of warmth and personality.

random question: kyla, where did you get the pot rack? i have been wavering on whether or not having one in my kitchen would feel too heavy and close (i also have a tiny galley kitchen), but the one you have is really sweet and simple, and i think i might be sold on the idea!

Adwoa- The pot rack & the magnetic knife ‘rack’ are both from ikea, I’m quite sure the pit rack was from the GRUNDTAL series, though it’s not on the website from what I can see.
