weekly wrap up +new penguin clothbound classics

pile-1_1
penguin’s recovered classic series was a huge hit when i posted it last november, so i was thrilled to hear from coralie at penguin about a brand new series of penguin clothbound classics.
books_2

8 of penguin’s titles from last year will soon be available across america, with a selection of titles for sale at anthropologie and urban outfitters. in addition to the american set, there will be an additional set which will be exclusive to waterstone’s in the uk, available through their website on october 5th. i quite simply can’t get enough of these books so i hope you’ll enjoy them as much i as did.

until next monday, i hope you all have a wonderful weekend! below is a summary of this week’s highlights:

Have you seen the Ruben Toledo covers for a few Penguin Classics?

I found them b/c I wanted to write about this series. The Toledo covers are tres chic, though personally, I like this style better.

Anyway, you find more info about the Toledo covers here:

Is it wrong to buy a book just because it’s pretty? I *need* all of these, but particularly that copy of Little Women. As if my book addiction weren’t bad enough!

No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane: The books will cost no more at Anthropologie than they do anywhere else: $20 each. And for anyone wondering why they can’t find the books on the Anthropologie and UO sites, it’s because the books aren’t on sale till November (and those sites don’t do pre-orders as far as I know).

Also, my guess is that this new set of books will be available in the U.S. the same time next year, November 2010 (just in time for holiday shopping).

August 31st, 2009 - 1:59 pm

I can’t decide which one I like the most! These are fantastic!

I bought the old set at the beginning of this year from Indigo online. They’re lovely. Hopefully the new set will be available there too, because I’m not patient enough to wait until next year for Penguin to maybe release them here.

Okay, for all you Canadians looking for these books, I just pre-ordered 8 of the 10 books from the old set on amazon.ca. Then I found the missing two, Madame Bovary and Crime and Punishment and my local Chapters store! Now, I just have to try and be patient until the new set reaches us in Canada…

Stephanie said:

I found six of the ten on the Chapters Indigo website. However, there are no pictures, so you have to search by ISBN. I have no clue why all ten are not available, but hopefully they are soon! I’m a little nervous buying them unseen, but it seems like that has worked out for others so here’s hoping.

P.S. you can find the ISBNs for each book in the comments under each picture of them on the penguin flickr photostream

Whitney said:

Thanks for the tip for the flickr stream. I will continue to search for the new set…I really can’t resist these, even if I have to get them from the UK. :)

Thanks grace for answering my question too!
