because everyone loves cake…

cake-photo-one
i love a good dessert, and love it even more when the dessert is in some way clever or unexpected. so when i heard from brandy and rebecca from the regional assembly of text about this typewriter cake they had at their 4 year anniversary party i couldn’t resist.

sometimes party decorations and invites are my favorite types of design. they’re usually small-scale, united around a single theme and can focus on the sorts of handmade crafts that i love to make for friends and family. i love their simple invites, all based around the number “4″ and the beautiful cake that their friend allison chambers made by hand. sometimes sweet little design details like this make for the most memorable events. thanks to rebecca and brandy for sharing.

I’ll tell you what makes that cake the right type (groan): FROSTING! I love that it’s made with frosting and not that nasty fondant. So there’s a chance it actually TASTES good besides just looking cool.

I do believe that this little post was all about me. I have swooned and crushed over vintage typewriters both to close friends and my blog alike (I just KNOW that one day my “dream guy” will show up with one in hand) … and it may be all the better if it was made entirely out of frosting like this amazing cake! :)

Thanks for solidifying my total crush on all things typewriters. This was the perfect way to start my Wednesday!

Are those typewriter keys made from Rolos?

oh my gosh, this is one of my very favourite indie stores (and it’s even cuter in person than the website would have you believe). kudos for featuring a canadian retailer! xo

These guys are amazing. If you are ever in Vancouver a visit to the Regional Assembly of Text is a must. They are the sweetest ladies and make the loveliest of goods. I’m bummed I missed the party and that cake! p.s. someone asked who made the invite and I’m pretty sure it was them

This reminds me of the surprise birthday cake that Tim gives Daisy in the second season of Spaced.

I loved that one too! ^_^

Plus – What’s even better than a receiving a typewriter cake? Having a typewriter cake food fight in a restaurant! Priceless…

OMG! AH…..MAZING! Grace, this is so spectacular! Joyous! Rolo type keys? Flippin’ brilliant!

I just came off of a marathon cake baking session. Cannot even imagine how much time this took! Inspiring! :)

whoa, that is some cake. Funny, my 3-yr old saw it on the screen and asked “what’s that?” I told her a typewriter “what’s that for mama?”

September 2nd, 2009 - 5:09 pm

Seriously?? This is THE coolest cake ever!

I had the same reaction as Bubsey…I love Regional Assembly of Text and thought of them. I live in California, but my daughter goes to school at UBC in Vancouver, and this shop is a must-do on every trip. Kate highly recommends the letter writing club.
Happy Birthday to them!
