Decorating with Houndstooth

51
After stripes (and I love my stripes), houndstooth is my all time favorite pattern.
I couldn’t be more excited that houndstooth is such a trend this fall as seen in the collections of top designers like Alexander McQueen, Marc by Marc Jacobs and others. It is a bold and graphic pattern and just reeks with good, old-fashioned sophistication and elegance.

I love the idea of using houndstooth as a decorating motif. The design has so many dimensions. Depending on scale and application it can be very quiet or quite loud.
These fabric flowers from Allen Company Inc., have the tiniest little houndstooth pattern on them. They are soft and charming with a vintage feel and would be the perfect centerpiece at a Fall dinner party.

On a similar note, these handmade houndstooth-printed leaves made by sister-in-law team JaneJoss, are a little bit more graphic and lively. They look great on their own but I see myself mixing them in with other real flowers for a new twist on a bouquet.

If you’d like to take things to the next level but not ready for all-out commitment, temporary wallpaper manufacturers, Tempaper make houndstooth-printed wallpaper. All of their styles are re-positionable so you can paper your entryway in houndstooth now and then take it down later if Laura Ashley chintz-style florals come back into fashion or if you just need something new.

If you want to be truly bold, then you’ll love the houndstooth screen by Courtney Skott as much as I do. I adore the crisp lines and the play on positive/negative. This screen is a beautiful work of art and would be such a great tool for delineating space in an open-plan apartment. At present, this is only a prototype but there is always hope. With so many options, there is something for everyone in the houndstooth trend for fall (though please, don’t do it all at once!)

I love houndstooth! I have a houndstooth umbrella from Target I’d love to put in a big holder in the entry way.

This is a great houndstooth low-down! I thought you might be interested to read a piece on our trend blog about houndstooth in interiors posted on August 21st. It gives a neat background to the trends emergence and it’s 1940’s influences…and ties in with your posting beautifully. Yey you & yey us!
