I am a journalist with a passion for architecture and design and lately I’ve become obsessed with posters. It started at the beginning of summer with a visit to the Getty Center. I live in Los Angeles and my parents were visiting from Sydney. We loaded the kids into the car and headed to Richard Meier’s fabulous travertine museum on the hill. It’s such a majestic building perched high above the city. We spent a lot of time in the garden, a little bit of time in the galleries and, of course, ended up in the shop. That’s where I found the poster section. They had a Hockney on wonderful heavy stock that I got for my son. Inspired I began to search out other poster sellers and designers. Here are a few of my favorites…

1. Ace Gallery in Beverly Hills has a really strong collection of contemporary artists – all beyond my purse. But, their poster collection is excellent and reasonable. My favorite is ‘Ace John Millei 2006’

2. Then there’s the David Hockney poster from the Getty that began the obsession…

3. For an interesting contemporary eclectic aesthetic check out Poster Cabaret – (Pictured is the work of Diana Sudyka called Rene Herse).

4. And, last but not least, Andrew Holder – I first spotted his work in Tyler Brule’s journal Monocle. I really like Holder’s take on some of my favorite buildings – here is Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles (image at the top of the post) and the Standard hotel in New York.
