today i am positively bursting at the seams to announce the big project i’ve been working on for the past few months: our very first design*sponge book!
next fall/winter 2010 the design*sponge book will be hitting shelves at a bookstore near you! what will be inside? our hardback (yay!) book will contain over 400 pages of inspiring homes, diy projects, before & afters, styling tips, design history, floral ideas and much, much more. in order to have the book finished in time to hit the shelves next fall, we’re all hustling to turn in content before the new year. (the race is on!)
the whole d*s team is incredibly excited to create a book that goes beyond pretty pictures to provide inspiring and practical ideas that will be useful for years to come. i wanted the book to reflect the depth of content we’ve created over the past 5+ years so the book will contain all of the greatest hits from d*s over the past 5 years, as well as heaps of great new content (at least 50%) in all of the categories mentioned above. i’m working with all the editors to develop new projects and content that we’re all so excited to share! (i don’t know how i’m going to wait a full year!)
i’m thrilled to be working with artisan books on this project, and with also design (they designed the new d*s in 2007) on the book design! matt, jenny and julia will be coming up with creative ways to make the book look fantastic and julia will be contributing illustrations throughout!
now that we’re in the thick of writing the book, we’re looking for submissions to be featured in in its pages! what are we looking for?
sneak peeks: we’re on the hunt for inspiring homes that have not been published in major magazines or blogs. have a suggestion or home to submit? just shoot me an email right here!
diy projects: we’re working hard on a whole bevy of new projects, but we’re always on the lookout for great projects that have not been published in major magazines or blogs. have a project to submit? just shoot me an email right here!
before & afters: we’re featuring some of our favorite projects from the site and a slew of new makeovers, but we’re also looking for great before & afters that have not been published in major magazines or blogs. have a home or furniture makeover to submit? just shoot me an email right here!
photographers: we need some help photographing homes and projects for the book and are looking for photographers to team up with in the following cities: new york, london (and essex), paris, san francisco, portland oregon, palm springs, and los angeles. are you a photographer who’d like to work with us on the book? just shoot me an email right here!
d*s book intern: i’m looking for one brave soul who has 5-10 hours a week to help me organize the ginormous task that is writing a 400+ page book by the end of the year. i’d prefer someone in nyc, but am open to hard-workers who are online 24/7 and can help from home. want to join the team? just shoot me an email right here with your resume.
i’m so thrilled to be working on this book and can’t wait to tell you more as the project progresses. i’m especially excited about creating a book that is a real community effort- i can’t wait to share content created not only by the d*s team, but by readers like all of you. thank you so much for your support over the past 5 years and i look forward to providing you with a new resource for great design next year! xo, d*s.
