Turn this Room into an Outfit

outfit-illus
Like many of you out there. I was a huge fan of Domino magazine. It was all about fashion for the home and was always a source of inspiration for decorating ideas and projects. Its passing has left a major void in my monthly magazine subscription delivery and I miss it dearly.
One of my favorite columns was the “Turn This Outfit into a Room” spread where the editors would use a photo of a cool-looking girl as inspiration behind decorating a room. The results were always fantastic.

Grace has no shortage of cool-looking rooms featured on Design Sponge. I was inspired by her Sneak Peeks to create my own version of the Domino column: turn this room into an outfit.
I chose two of my all-time favorite DS sneak peeks rooms and went from there.
Although these outfits are decidedly me. I hope they also express the spirit behind these rooms that I love so much.

I´d like to dressing on this way…Is a very nice look, casual and elegant, very freshly.
The living room is nice too, very friendly and paceful.

fave. love. I was just explaining yesterday to someone about how obsessed I am with playing the “turn this outfit into a room” game. *sigh* how about we just play the game ourselves, now. You should make this into a regular feature!

i love this idea, too. but having worked at domino, i feel a little weird taking one of their columns (whereas the under $100 column was an idea i pitched to them). part of me thinks of it as “theirs” and i hate feeling like i’m leaning on what was popular for them. i should probably just get over it, but i can’t shake that “but that’s their column!” voice in my head.

just to clarify- i don’t think caroline is copying or anything like that- i just have reservations about turning it into a regular column ;)

Grace, the world is an very old place, all the things were already created…But life is re-creating and re-novating with our own feeling and soul.
Go ahead, Caroline!!!

i love it! this domino-inspired idea was one of the things i most looked forward to each month (that, and “10 things that make me happy”, not to mention whatever thing the ever-intrepid Cynthia Kling was taking on…). thanks for the inspiration!

true, but that column is really associated with domino. i don’t have any problem with caroline doing in- just want to make that clear- but i’m not sure i’d feel comfortable doing it here (i’ve gotten lots of emails asking me to do that and i just don’t feel right about it yet).

This was also one of my favorite Domino columns. I think Caroline’s sketch really makes this post, and I would love to see this as a regular feature. The second outfit and room are my favorite of the two…I am really into embellished t-shirts lately. Great job on both though!

Thanks for turning our house into an outfit. How fun. Caroline, your illustrations are lovely. Now I know what to wear when I sit on that couch!

I’m so thrilled by all of the positive responses to this post. It was my favorite post I put together for the week!
While Grace won’t be continuing this on Design Sponge, I would love to feature it as an installment on my blog, Looks Good To Me. I hope you’ll check in with me once I am back posting over there. Thanks!

This post was great! I love the outfit that came out of the room, and it made me laugh as an idea. Maybe I can turn my room into an outfit? It would be messy…

I really like this column. I think it’s a great way to help keep Domino alive! I miss her. It was a girl, right? ;)

I love love love these….and miss so much the domino version. I took inspiration from outfit to a room thing too, except with my own twist — I took the outfit and turned it into a garden…I call the regularly re-curring feature ‘Can You Make This Into A Garden?” at my blog -Studio ‘g’.
