after a few days at the brimfield antique fair i woke up on saturday morning officially ready to rid my living room of my mid century furniture in exchange for a look that is more “rustic antique”. i’m trying to find a way to mix in some industrial-style antiques, along with some worn wooden pieces, so i’ve got “weathered” looks on the brain. so when i saw this email from designer robert andrew highsmith of workstead i was instantly smitten.

robert’s new workstead table is made of 100% reclaimed materials. the table is built from two steel stands formerly used to support the structure of a ship’s hull and the tabletop is an old recycled plank door. i love the base of the table and am already imagining a way to start a separate savings account to save up for this sucker. until that day, i’ll continue to pine away for this table over at the workstead site. if you’d like to chat with them about purchasing (the table is available for custom orders only + several finishes/heights are available upon request) just email stefanie right here.

What a wonderful table! Industrial antiques give me trouble too, largely because they make me want to throw everything out and start again (or buy a bigger house!) but for now I will content myself with our Jielde lamps and plot and plan for our next home…

Amazing. I can’t imagine it as a desk, though. Isn’t conducive to long sits, especially since any chair other than a minimalist design wouldn’t look right.

I see this as a unique dining room table.

I had so much fun at Brimfield, too! I’ve been a long fan of the industrial, rustic look, so I thought the market was amazing (and overwhelming). It feels good to fill your home with furniture that’s getting a second life, or pieces made with reclaimed woods. I think it’s truly one of the greenest ways to decorate.

I went to Brimfield for the first time yesterday, and WHOA. There’s SO MUCH to see! This year I walked away with just some costume jewelery… but once I’m ready to re-do the apartment, watch out! :-)

The desk pictured above is lovely, but where do you put all your desk-like items, such as pens, papers, tape, scissors, external hard drive, etc? That was the issue I had with my previous non-drawer desk.

my home is pretty minimal rustic. i always appreciate other styles (like mid-cent. mod but have personally always felt comfortable with old and worn.)most awesome table. i need something like this in my studio but higher so i can stand and work. i love using reclaimed wood. and brimfield? soooo much fun but exhausting. can’t wait for next may already.

This desk is EXACTLY what I want. I wonder what kind of pricing we’re talking about…

We went up to Brimfield about five years ago for our annual anniversary weekend trip. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time, money or car space, to bring back everything we wanted. But we did manage to bring back two industrial desk chairs.

Grace, I don’t understand your need to purge the mid-century items you already have. I think the two styles compliment each other quite well. But, if you can’t shake it, feel free to dump off your MCM stuff on me. I’ll take good care of it!

This looks like it could also be a fabulous dinner table!

I’d love to see more of the rustic/antique industrial look – that’s what I’ve always loved: rustic antiques paired with ultra modern stuff. I’m SO over mid century.
