andreabefore
today’s first before & after comes from d*s reader andrea dean in the uk. she recently made over her bathroom on a tight budget and the result is a clean, bright space that would do any modern apartment justice. great work, andrea! photos courtesy of david giles photography.

kim in sydney, australia sent over this clever mantle makeover. after picking up an old, used mantle on ebay, kim set out to create a faux-fireplace. after cleaning up the mantle frame decorative paper was added to the back of the mantle for extra detail. great work, kim!

Both transformations are truly fabulous. My old apartment had a fireplace, that I really miss…nice to see that I can get a salvaged mantle and create something lovely for my own home that has no fireplace. Thanks for the inspiration Kim!

Love both of these. The bathroom is so clean and crisp and the alphabet decorative paper is a great idea for those an unused fireplace.

I love the mirrors above the fireplace. That bath looks a ton better too – very bright, clean and cheerful.

Can anyone tell me where these cabinets are from? I’ve been looking for something just like this for my bathroom.

I’m so envious of this bathroom, looks so clean and fun with the light colors and rubber duckies! Clever use of the decorative paper for the fireplace, love the mirrors!

I am interested in the towel rack in the bathroom. Never have enough places to hang towels – clean or used in a boy’s bathroom – this might help.

In reply to Cara’s and Megan’s comments, the shelving/cabinet unit was built by a carpenter. He used timber rather than MDF as it’s less likely to warp in a humid atmosphere.

I would love to know where the bathroom shelves & towel rack came from.

The mantle pics struck a cord. I’ve done several (well, three–one for each daughter) but put a small bookcase into the openings. It’s perfect for CDs or treasured things or even books, actually. It really makes for a great focal point in any room.

Both are great, but I adore that bathroom. The colors, shelving and tiles are wonderful, but I am most envious of the TOWEL WARMERS!
