leila khalil of be inspired pr (which specializes in weddings, fun!) sent over her own 400 square foot office makeover. as a ’small business owner with a dream’, leila wanted to create a beautiful space on an affordable budget. she turned around this once-drab studio and created a colorful place to work and meet with clients. how did she do it? here are leila’s tips for making the move from home to “real” office space:
-search locally: instead of looking in a big metropolis, find what works close to home in a place that is affordable and accessible
-check your ego out the door: don’t expect to have the big corner office right away! Work with what you’ve got and be creative with your set up. I share my space with my whole team, which promotes camaraderie.
-finding a high end look for less: collect images of what inspires you and find it in a price range that fits your budget. maybe its target, home goods, zgallerie, etc..
-get your hands dirty: you may have to go to ikea to achieve the luxury look for less, but get ready to assemble it yourself.
-be bold: don’t be afraid to go with bright colors and textures. Be you and make your space a reflection of who you are!
thanks to leila for sharing her transformation- great work!

designer roberto gil of brooklyn updated 9 year old eva’s west village bedroom along with the help of fili perez. roberto chose to use bamboo plywood combined with contrasting white painted surfaces to create a clean modern look that would last eva well through her teenage years. roberto and his studio designer and built the custom furniture, including a bed with six drawers and a shoe cabinet behind sliding doors. the desk even has a little pull out next to the bed’s headboard to ask as a night table. i love space saving ideas like that- thanks for sharing, roberto!
