before & after: leila’s office + eva’s room

leila khalil of be inspired pr (which specializes in weddings, fun!) sent over her own 400 square foot office makeover. as a ’small business owner with a dream’, leila wanted to create a beautiful space on an affordable budget. she turned around this once-drab studio and created a colorful place to work and meet with clients. how did she do it? here are leila’s tips for making the move from home to “real” office space:

-search locally: instead of looking in a big metropolis, find what works close to home in a place that is affordable and accessible
-check your ego out the door: don’t expect to have the big corner office right away! Work with what you’ve got and be creative with your set up. I share my space with my whole team, which promotes camaraderie.
-finding a high end look for less: collect images of what inspires you and find it in a price range that fits your budget. maybe its target, home goods, zgallerie, etc..
-get your hands dirty: you may have to go to ikea to achieve the luxury look for less, but get ready to assemble it yourself.
-be bold: don’t be afraid to go with bright colors and textures. Be you and make your space a reflection of who you are!

thanks to leila for sharing her transformation- great work!

[have a before & after you'd like to share on d*s? just shoot me an image here with your (low res, jpeg) images!]

designer roberto gil of brooklyn updated 9 year old eva’s west village bedroom along with the help of fili perez. roberto chose to use bamboo plywood combined with contrasting white painted surfaces to create a clean modern look that would last eva well through her teenage years. roberto and his studio designer and built the custom furniture, including a bed with six drawers and a shoe cabinet behind sliding doors. the desk even has a little pull out next to the bed’s headboard to ask as a night table. i love space saving ideas like that- thanks for sharing, roberto!

Awesome set up for little eva! And when she turns goth, it will be really simple to paint those pink handles black! I love how super functional it is and smart. The shoes are stored by the door in the bed! Man, can I have an adult version? 2 sided?

LOVE the office makeover! What a great use of white.

That office is stunning! I can’t help but wonder, though, why she didn’t change out the bathroom faucet? They are so cheap, and a new polished one would go a long way to update that vanity. Beautiful, though!

Hey! We know that office! In fact we helped crack open the champagne bottle to break it in :) Such a lovely space and lovely ladies!!

that office looks a little too much like an ikea catalog page for me

Wow, I love the office space. It would be so inspiring to go to such a bright and lovely space to work each day (as I type from my gray, gray cubicle…)

Hi Leila,

I second the commenter who was wondering where that nifty macbook cover is from! Gorgeous gorgeous office.

I too am also wondering why such a simple fix such as changing out the bathroom faucet was overlooked. My eye went immediately to the cheap faucet when I should have been looking at the lovely wall treatment instead. Nice job on the rest of it.

Everything Leila touches just turns to gold…in this case, a gorgeous green palate. Her office is so comfortable and inviting, and we tend to lose track of time as we work on our business collaborations!

I love a combination of colors: white on the green, and a little bit of bright pink here and there! So soft, so relaxing – I am so inspired to redo my bedroom in a similar way.

Leila: Love the colors you chose. I know I’d be really productive in a space like that.

Could you share where found your bathroom mirror? It sort of looks like something that someone handy could make. But seeing as I’m not that handy, I’d be thrilled if I could find something like that ready-made.

I very much appreciate that every detail has been attended to, down to the color of the computer, the bathroom towels and the running lights. Of course in our industry no detail can be overlooked. I most appreciate how the young lady has integrated the schemes in her workspace with those on her website, to me it seems that she has the potential to have a very strong brand. Best of luck and I hope that we’ll be able to work with you in the future.

I love all the white accessories…I have been working on doing that in my apartment …little by little as I can afford it …we moved into a beige box and at first all I wanted was color, but then I started seeing how pretty the all white accessories were and especially with just tiny pops of color and so it took off from there….thanks for inspiring me to continue!

I’m probably to late to this thread. But I’m embarking on a similar type of space, a multi-user office but am daunted by the potential cost! Can I ask what your budget for this was?

Thanks much!
