bookbook

yesterday i heard from a bazillion people asking “did you hear about the ipad?!?!” so this morning i’ve got mac products on the brain. normally i’m pretty simple when it comes to lugging my macbook around (throw in bag, shove 2 scarves on either side to keep it from slamming into things) but when i heard from ashley at hither and thither about these cool “book covers” for your laptop i was instantly intrigued.

made of distressed leather, each “bookbook” is unique and is designed with dual zippers with leather pulls that look like bookmarks on first glance. you can keep your macbook charged while it’s protected because of the dual zippers (zip them to one side and leave a small space for your cord to plug in) or zip it up and carry it with you. i absolutely LOVE the idea of hiding your computer (something i never like looking at, despite its sleek design) inside of a book that looks like its been around for ages. for me, this is the perfect way to house something that looks a little too sleek and modern to match the rest of my house. click here for more information on bookbook and to place an order ($79.99). i think i may have to break out my credit card and make one of these my own. thanks to ashley for the tip!

I’ve been loving this thing ever since they announced it. I’m using all my willpower to wait until I can find an actual review of the product, which I can’t seem to find anywhere yet, before plunking down my 80 bucks. Ahh I want this so bad.

Beautiful as these are, and if I had a macbook I’d probably be buying one, but surely charging the battery while it’s zipped up can’t be a good idea. Where/how does the excess heat vent?

i mad the switch this summer. i loved my PCs for years and years, but my trusty 2006 laptop died. i almost always lost my pc to a virus, so i decided to give the whole “macs don’t ever get viruses” thing i try…

It’s funny how everyone wants it as a case because they love distressed books and books in genereal, because the one reason I would want it is for long vacations when I go away and don’t bring my laptop. Because I’m paranoid, I usually hide my laptop somewhere just incase something were to happen while I was away, usually under the bed hidden in between clothes stored there, but this would be really great because no robber would ever think to go through a bookshelf full of books to look for valuables, right? Haha. Too bad I don’t go away often enough!

January 30th, 2010 - 7:07 pm

Grace, so how are you liking the mac side of things? Which do you have?

I have the Macbook Pro 13″, and although it’s a bit small to manage a website from, a 27″ iMac is on my Impossibles wish list. :)

i’ve got a 15″ macbook pro. loving it so far. some hardware quirks i don’t love, but it’s great not to have to worry about viruses so much, which were the bane of my existence before.

Kiri, if you laptop is closed up and just charging, it won’t be heating up.

February 5th, 2010 - 10:46 pm

My red Bookbook just arrived today and it has such a rich smell of leather and vintage look with distressed gold lettering and lines. It fits my new Macbook Pro 13″ snugly. The plastic zippers are fine and I don’t expect them to scratch. I do love the zipper pulls. The covers are very rigid and will totally protect my MBP. You won’t be disappointed with the uber-stylish function. It seems very well made, hooray, in the USA, and the edge seams are sewn very neatly. The only drawback is that the top cover can’t open any further than 90 degrees so I will have to play with the angle for typing. All in all, I’m very happy.

Awh! These are amazing! But why would they hurt themselves by only selling them for macs? Most people (like myself) use pc’s because they are MUCH less expensive and work just as well (if you know what computer to pick).

PS: Grace, did you have any virus protection on your old computer? (I mean besides Norton or Mcafee, both are useless) It’s sad that you had to switch over to mac because of that! There are plenty of really nice free antivirus software programs available. I personally had many close calls, but thanks to Avira, they’ve all been handled instantly.

Wow, I had to use a lot of restraint in this post. I really dislike macs! :(

i had every virus software known to man but it didn’t stop them. i was a diehard pc-girl but eventually had to call it a day. but i don’t walk around talking about how awesome macs are now- i’ve had a few issues with my new laptop so i’m not 100% sold, but it’s great not to worry about viruses as much.

This is an AWESOME case! Just got a 15.4″ MBP and HAD to get this :-) Feel it still needs some additional protection inside though and haven’t yet resolved this (incipio feather not yet changed for new MBP and don’t like the shine of the Invisible Shield) – maybe just a neoprene something or other. It IS the COOLEST object EVER though, <3 the irony of it, Macbook in Book etc… BUY!
