when i wake up in the morning, it’s thanks to a giant white cat stepping on my head and not-so-subtly jamming his whiskers in my nose. it’s not a pretty picture. as much as i love my cats, i would much rather wake up to the sweet chirping of birds next to my bed. but considering that the closest birds i have are a nasty gang of pigeons that congregate on the top of our air conditioner, i think i’ll have to go with the birdbox instead.
luckybits recently released a fun new product that combines a tech product (an iphone app) with an actual object (a simple paper house) to create a cheerful alarm clock. all you do is drop your iphone in the decorative box and turn on the app, that gently wakes you up to the sound (and sight) of nesting birds. such a clever idea. i’ve really enjoyed watching designers play with the iphone and find new ways to combine something digital with something physical. want to check it out for yourself? the app itself is totally free and the box is around $12- click here to get more info and to buy. [thanks, emma!]
Sigh – yet another application to make me wish I had an iPhone… although I think my fav thing about this story is the first photo with the lovebird lego characters! :)
I don’t even have an iPhone but now I just may have to get one… that is great!

I wake up the same (cat) way. My boyfriend calls it the Booger (kitty’s name) hat. He curls up on our heads & starts purring. I actually prefer waking up to it.
It usually takes me about 1/2 hour to wake up and all those snoozes are pretty annoying, so I would very much like to get something more cheerful for those lazy gray mornings…
I’ve had ideas similar to this. I’d love to see more iPhone/accessory combos that are this well designed if they are out there.
More please. :)

I think you’d get sick of the paper box kicking around on your sidetable in a NY minute. And the novelty of sticking your iphone in a box every night would also fade. Cute idea, dumb to live with.
my cat jams his nose/whiskers into my nostrils, too. it’s annoying at the time, but really cute to think about afterward. ;)

I would recommend using the Phillips Wake Up Light it simulates the rising sun AND has a variety of sounds including birds :) it always wakes me up on time and pleasantly :)
