good morning! i wanted to kick things off this morning with some beautiful designs from egg collection. egg is a group of designers (crystal ellis, julie scheu, hillary petrie, and stephanie beamer) who met in architectural school and have been working together on furniture designs ever since. i simply can’t get enough of their “stumped” lamps made from fallen sycamores and working light bulbs. gorgeous. there’s plenty more to see at their site, so click here for more information on egg collective’s work. good morning! i wanted to kick off the day with these beautiful wooden stool/side tables from designer nicolai czumaj-bront. made from reclaimed wood, each piece is composed by combining different pieces of wood that are fused with a machining process. i love the overall look and feel of each piece. click here for more info on nicolai’s work.

our wedding: part three

today is probably my favorite day of wedding pictures- handmade projects! in honor of diy day, i’m excited to share images of all the diy projects we did for our big day. i’m also excited to link to a great slideshow of images and information that martha stewart weddings did this week with all the wedding crafters/artists with which we worked. one of my favorite projects from the wedding were these handkerchief table numbers made by the lovely sian keegan. we had leftover handkerchiefs from the invites and we thought it would be fun to use them for table numbers. sian and i flipped through books of numbers and fonts and chose one that we thought would best fit the vintage meets modern theme. then sian stenciled all the numbers on and we wrapped them around bottles of water the day of the wedding.

our little silhouette fans had a moment in the sun yesterday on the martha stewart show and i can’t help but love these even more now. when martha said “these are so cute” i think my heart stopped beating. because savannah is normally the temperature of an oven with a dash of humidity mixed in, we thought it best to provide some “georgia air-conditioning” for the outdoor ceremony in the form of paper fans. i took profile photos of myself, ac and our 2 cats and julia turned them into adorable green silhouettes with the date of our wedding. after being printed they were passed out from a vintage wire basket from @home.

our napkin rings were so much fun to make. i ordered a roll of vintage wallpaper from belgium and cut it in strips to be wrapped around the napkins. the wallpaper was then secured with twine strings through which we strung real wood buttons and toggles (all from m&j trimming). my favorite part of the evening was looking over to the table full of designers and design-folks and seeing them turn the buttons into rings (like rena above) and jacket accessories (that’s derek’s jacket above, with his wedding invite folded as a pocket square- so clever).

humble pillows + a place to swing

in the world of animal prints, there are very few furry friends that haven’t been overdone in the past few years. yet, there are a handful of animals that i will never tire of. namely: bears, horses and foxes. something about these animals always grabs me, so i tend to have a soft spot for products that feature them. kristie of humble collection just released a line of pillow covers and tea towels featuring a fox and wild horse pattern that i can’t resist. simple, sweet and printed on 100% cotton with water based inks, each piece is affordable and under $30. now that the holidays are getting close i might need to add these to my list of things that would make fun gifts for friends who are moving and might need a few new accessories. click here to shop kristie’s full collection at etsy.

i also wanted to share this beautiful swing from pratt grad student christina fesmire today. christina’s “fugle swing” is made from maple veneer laminate, walnut inlay and hemp and was inspired by scandinavian design. after weeks of anatomical study on the human coccyx, christina came up with a design that would create a sense of “beauty and livability” and comfort. i know i’d be happy to take a swing on this on a nice summer day. click here for more information on christina’s project….

workstead

after a few days at the brimfield antique fair i woke up on saturday morning officially ready to rid my living room of my mid century furniture in exchange for a look that is more “rustic antique”. i’m trying to find a way to mix in some industrial-style antiques, along with some worn wooden pieces, so i’ve got “weathered” looks on the brain. so when i saw this email from designer robert andrew highsmith of workstead i was instantly smitten.

robert’s new workstead table is made of 100% reclaimed materials. the table is built from two steel stands formerly used to support the structure of a ship’s hull and the tabletop is an old recycled plank door. i love the base of the table and am already imagining a way to start a separate savings account to save up for this sucker. until that day, i’ll continue to pine away for this table over at the workstead site. if you’d like to chat with them about purchasing (the table is available for custom orders only + several finishes/heights are available upon request) just email stefanie right here.

bram hendriks + boey

i have a soft spot for furniture that feels both organic/woodsy and industrial or edgy at the same time. so when d*s reader nichon sent over a link to designer bram hendriks‘ furniture i was in heaven.

based in the netherlands, bram creates incredibly beautiful wooden furniture that features natural details like live moss on bark and industrial decorative details like screws (which also serve a functional purpose) arranged in a studded fashion. i’m dying to see these in person, but in the meantime i’ll have to keep drooling over bram’s site. click here to check it out and thanks to nichon for the link!
