today’s city guide comes from nathalie of design undercover. based in dublin, i can think of no one more fit to create the d*s dublin design guide than an honest-to-goodness local design fan. nathalie covers all sorts of fantastic design shops and local designer spots, as well as a great section on dublin art. i hope you’ll enjoy her guide as much as i did- click here for the full post or just click “read more” below. [thanks, nathalie!]

today’s new city guide belongs to the lonestar state. carolina saunders of carolina eclectic was kind enough to write this guide to houston, focusing on the “inner loop” including downtown, the museum district and many others. houston is a large city and there may be some spots we’ve missed so please feel free to list your favorite spots in the comments section below. thanks again to caroline for creating this great guide to houston! click here to read the full houston design guide. today’s city guides are taking us to two very different locations: raleigh, nc and abroad to bristol, england. designer jane gallagher lives and works (and designs jewelry) in bristol and offered to make this wonderful city guide in case anyone is heading over to england this spring and would like to check out some wonderful shops off the beaten path. i hope you’ll enjoy her guide to shopping, eating and culture in bristol england as much as i did. click here for the full guide or click “read more” below. thanks to jane for all her hard work!
[jane created a fantastic google maps guide to go with this piece so click here to check it out]

i’m thrilled to add another southern city design guide to our growing city guide collection today. this guide to raleigh, nc (as well as some great shops in other parts of the ‘triangle’: durham and chapel hill) was written by d*s reader, and blogger, whitney barnes. whitney graduated from nc state’s design school this past may and spent the past four years living and shopping in raleigh. she now lives and works in chapel hill (guide coming soon!) but today she’s focusing on raleigh. i hope you’ll enjoy her introduction and guide- thanks again to whitney for her hard work! and thanks to the lovely michelle s. of indie nc for some great additions towards the end of the guide. click here for the full guide or just click “read more” below. [as always, if you have a local favorite you’d like to add please feel free to do so in the comment section below]

today’s incredible new city guide was written by san francisco artist lisa neimeth. lisa created an incredible guide to santa fe with shops, eating and places to say. it makes me want to change my ticket home from seattle today (which i love!) to stop by santa fe on the way home. in the meantime i hope you’ll enjoy lisa’s santa fe guide as much as i did. click here (or just click “read more” below) for the full guide and lisa’s text and photos. thanks to lisa for all her hard work!

i’m so thrilled to add a new city guide to the site today- this time written by one of my all-time favorite bloggers, joy of oh joy! joy hardly needs an introduction so i’ll just say she’s one of the coolest ladies around and has one heck of a great eye for design. when i left my philadelphia inquirer column to write for HG i couldn’t have imagined a better person taking over so when it came to creating a philly design guide, i wouldn’t have dreamed of asking anyone else. thankfully joy was kind enough to take time out from her busy schedule of blogging, writing, and designing to create a fantastic city guide for us. thanks to joy for her hard work- i hope you’ll enjoy the guide! click here to read the full guide or just click “read more” below. [stay tuned for a new product guide at 2]

i am more thrilled about today’s new city guide than i can possibly express. one of my all-time favorite blogs, sweet juniper, was kind enough to create a guide to their newly adopted hometown, detroit. i’ve been reading sweet juniper for over a year now and am constantly blown away by the beautiful photos and well-written posts. if you haven’t checked them out before, i highly suggest it (you can also check out their beautiful mies van der rohe home sneak peek right here). jim griffioen, better known as “dutch” to sweet juniper fans, was kind enough to sit down and write what is easily one of the most detailed and interesting city guides we’ve ever published on the site. a writer, amateur photographer and former lawyer, jim moved with his family from san francisco to downtown detroit in 2006 and “hasn’t regretted it for a second”. while detroit may not be a mecca for the type of design seen in magazines and blogs like this, it is home to incredible architectural and design history- as well as some wonderful local artisans. jim’s guide is a must, must read and is full of humor, history and great finds. i hope you’ll enjoy the guide as much as i did. click here to view the full guide, or click “read more” below for the full post. jim also went to the trouble of creating a fantastic google map for the guide, which you can access right here (or below the fold). [thank you to jim for all of his incredible work!]
