when i look at photographs, i want to travel. whether it’s to an actual destination, or to a make-believe world that the image creates or inspires, i’ve always really loved the way pictures can make you go somewhere else in your mind. so when i saw silvana’s photographs from paris on etsy, i was instantly smelling strong (strong!) coffee, hearing the sound of street music and imagining all of the beautiful buildings in the city of lights. silvana has a really beautiful set of parisian images in her ‘leefee’ etsy shop, but she also has some lovely nature and nautical-inspired photos as all, all priced at either $17 or $32, depending on size. click here to check out her full collection and shop online.

i had a bit of a crazy weekend, so this morning i wanted to start off with something peaceful and calming- and for me, that’s black and white photography. something about the starkness of black and white shots always relaxes me, and when the subjects are animals, even better.

in the chaos of the holiday season i cherish quiet moments where you can stop, think and take everything in. these photographs from jennifer squires remind me of exactly that. jennifer’s new series of seascape shots were all taken while sitting alone on the beach waiting for the sun to rise. i love the sense of silence in each photo- looking at them immediately takes me away to a place where i don’t have to listen to honking car horns or loud holiday shoppers on my street. jennifer says she is “grateful for every day that i get to spend capturing the beauty of the world with my camera” and i think that comes through in each shot. click here to view (and shop) jennifer’s work online.

good morning! i hope this post finds you all rested and relaxed after the holiday- because today we’re hitting the ground running. today is the first day of our holiday gift guides (you requested that we run them earlier, so we’ll start today at 1pm!) and today the guest blog is back in full-swing with a wonderful new blogger: erin loechner of design for mankind.

heidi romano is a fine art photographer based in melbourne, australia. she recently finished a new series of botanical photographs that are seriously tugging at my heart strings. i don’t know what is is about getting older, but for some reason all the things i liked to do when i was really little, like saving three leaf clovers in book pages, are now my favorite activities again. so when i saw heidi’s photographs of leaves and flowers pressed on pages i instantly remembered all the book pages i had stuffed with little leaves. you can see more of (and contact heidi about purchasing) the new collection, garden of knowledge, right here. thanks, heidi!

when life and work are crazy sometimes it’s nice to focus on something simple. i’m loving the zen-like simplicity of these leaf photographs from artist jeff friesen in nova scotia. they’re such an interesting, peaceful contrast to yesterday’s bold sailboat prints. you can check out jeff’s collection of autumn-leaf ships right here at etsy.

i’m a big fan of kari herer’s photography. i love the way she combines illustration with still life and turns it into a breathtaking photograph. so i was thrilled to hear from her about her latest collection- a series that combines fresh flowers with bird illustrations.
