Design Sponge

when i went to brimfield, that sprawling east coast antique show, for the first time last year, i was so overwhelmed with the massive variety of antiques that i choked and came virtually empty-handed.  so this year, when grace, amy m. and i took a design*sponge team to check out the show, i was determined to fare better. i found a vintage industrial machinist table with a butcher block top that i plan to use as a bar cart. now i just need to accessorize! you can also find pretty fantastic vintage items on etsy and ebay. even if you don’t have a bar cart, nothing makes a party more festive than a tray filled all the fixings for cocktails! – amy a

one of the most popular under $100 roundups i did for domino was a roundup of affordable hardware. unfortunately that guide got the axe when domino’s website did, so i figured it was about time to start going through my old guides and updating them to run on d*s (i’m not allowed to run the old ones, as they legally belong to condé nast). so today i’m starting with hardware- one of my favorite inexpensive ways to spruce up existing furniture and found objects. i hope you’ll enjoy the selection of knobs, pulls, brackets, door knockers, switch plates and hooks- be sure to click here to check out the archive of budget-friendly d*s posts.

i’ve been sprucing up our bedroom quite a bit over the past few days. after a few months of dragging my feet, i finally got my grandad’s old railroad office desk shipped up from virginia so it kicked me into redecorating mode. since my desk is right next to my side of the bed, it serves double duty as a bedside table so i thought it would be fun to focus this week’s under $100 roundup on bedside table accessories and decor. it’s always nice to have a pretty carafe or jewelry dish bedside, so i’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces in the market right now- all under $100. hope you enjoy!

*also, just a quick programming note. i’ll be posting an under $100 roundup every other tuesday. on the weeks when i don’t post, amy azzarito will be posting her past & present design history column.
