June 12th, 2009 - 02:30pm

i find it only fitting that i should end the day (and the design show week) with a booth that turned out to not only be one of my favorites from the show, but turned out to be a distant relative! designer hannah bureau, along with her sisters rebeccah and sarah, run three sisters ink, a fantastic pattern-design firm based in massachusetts. my great aunt midge told me to stop by hannah’s booth and i’m so glad i did- three sisters was the most exciting part of surtex for me, and i found myself instantly taken with the playful, colorful that three sisters ink create. there are so many designs to enjoy on their site, and you can also pick up their work in print form right here on etsy. [thanks aunt midge for the suggestion!]
i’m off to pack and prep for our honeymoon in the great outdoors, but d*s will be back on monday with a regular week of content (including a whole HEAP of sneak peeks!). until then, here’s a summary of this week’s highlights:

April 3rd, 2009 - 11:00am

it’s friday and i can’t wait to close my laptop and head out into the sunshine! after a night of rain we finally have a sunny, 60 degree day so i’m going to run to madison square park and get myself in line at the shake shack. but first i wanted to share this beautiful new collection of textiles from heather at skinny laminx. heather’s ‘sevilla rock‘ collection was inspired by ancient cave paintings (and the work of peter slingsby) from the cederberg mountains just north of cape town (where she lives). heather combined her love of scandinavian style with her spin on the ancient drawings to create a lovely series of pillow, aprons, tea towels, and fabric. i love the soft greys and greens in the collection and have already decided to put my name on one of those lovely aprons. so if you’re interested in checking out heather’s latest collection click here to check it out and shop online. thanks, heather! i hope you all have a wonderful weekend- i’ll see you on monday (and on twitter in the meantime). below is a summary of this weeks highlights:
[ps: to the d*s readers who showed up to the "what is good design now" event last night looking for me, my sincere apologies for the confusion. i was never invited to speak on the panel so i have no idea why it was being promoted via email as such. i'm speaking the the organizers and PR company now to figure out how and why this happened]

March 20th, 2009 - 02:00pm

i wanted to end this week with a beautiful photograph from rinne allen, rebecca wood, and kristen bach’s new site, beauty everyday. after only a few posts, i’m madly in love with their collaborative website, dedicated to sharing the “rustic and arresting beauty of the south”. being a southern girl myself, i’m loving the way southern artists and designers are starting to pop up online more often and i’m excited to announce that i’ll be curating a show of southern artists at artstream later this summer!
beauty everyday showcases gorgeous southern homes, florals and food, and i was instantly smitten with this recipe for kumquat upside down cake. not only do i love kumquats, but that picture reminds me of one of my dream-home projects- to have a huge grey and cream-colored kitchen with one large wall dedicated to showcasing a large collection of aged cast-iron skillets. i love the patina of the aged pieces and think they have such character- and they have the added bonus of reminding me of corn bread.
also, i wanted to add a few biz ladies notes- next week we’ll be talking about PR, tech tools for your business and blogging (i’m going to write a d*s guide to blogging and will be sharing another guide from the boss ladies on blogging for designers/shop owners shortly after). but i wanted to put a call out for questions on an upcoming topic. the queen of pattern/illustration licensing, lilla rogers, will be answering your questions about licensing in the coming weeks, but she needs questions to answer first so…
please leave your questions for lilla on licensing in the comment section below! she will answer them in post-form in the coming weeks as part of the weekly biz ladies column.
ok, i’m off to work on wedding crafts, so i’ll see you all on monday with some gorgeous new sneak peeks and a fun interview with one of the designers behind my favorite stylish canadian airline. below is a summary of this week’s highlights…
- must-read posts of the week: sara jensen’s intl design posts, david stark for west elm, britt’s anthropologie inspired diy tables, under $100: pet design
