i first saw trove’s nature-inspired work at the 2006 icff and was instantly smitten with their colorful, but sophisticated, wallpapers. so i wasn’t surprised to find that i also love their latest collection of window films and wood veneer.

trove’s new window film is a self-adhesive design that comes in three different textures, for varying degrees of opacity (and privacy). i love with their butterfly print (above) and am hoping to convince ac to let me use it in our bathroom. on a different note, i would like to know where that room above is and when i can move in.

trove also recently introduced a new line of printed wood veneer wallcoverings, made from renewable materials. they have that warm glow that comes from wood feel, but without the obvious wood-grain effect that you often get with veneer. so lovely.

i’m a big fan of alan the gallant’s hand-drawn wallpaper (and their designers’ homes here, here and here), so i was happy to see they’ve introduced a new gold-on-gold wallpaper to their collection. topo dorado is a limited edition, non-woven paper (from sustainable sources in finland) that will be sold in rolls via alan the gallant, right here. thanks, alex!

to put it simply- contemporary british designers do wallpaper really, really well. these designers were the bulk of the reason i spent 2 hours in this 3 row section alone. catherine hammerton, tracy kendall and clarissa hulse are so good at what they do. (so was lizzie allen but unfortunately they weren’t keen on people photographing their booth)

it’s always a pleasure to see what designer tracy kendall has to share. she’s friendly, talented and full of great new ideas this year. and for the 2009 show, tracy focused on attaching tiny sequins, glittery tags, letters and puzzle pieces to wallpaper (by painstakingly hand-sewing each one). i loved all of the texture in her booth and was quite impressed with the stitched papers shown below. she’s always a class-act and this year was no exception.

designer catherine hammerton is just awesome. i have a major girl crush on her because she is so talented, so sweet and always comes up with designs that make me squeal with happiness. this year was no different- as she debuted a gorgeous series of layered/shingled wallpapers (the two images above) and two collections that had a fun DIY element. both ‘grace’ and ‘collection 09′ are beautiful flat papers that come with accessories that you can place and glue to create your own custom design. the ‘grace’ piece (the pale white style below) comes with paper flourish packs that you punch out and stick on the paper, and the ‘collection 09′ style (the collage-y piece below) comes with a fun pack of vintage knick-knacks that i would be excited about on its own. stated simply: catherine hammerton rules.

lauren and derek are under the weather today so i thought i’d wrap up diy day with this great project from d*s reader scott prendergast of a state of emergency. scott started with a simple idea- to decorate his bedroom wall with something colorful and affordable. so he went to home depot every day for a few weeks and took around 1000 paint swatches. after he arranged his collection in the desired pattern he used mod podge to attach them to the wall and- voila! a new colorful bedroom wall. i know some of you won’t want to lift 1,000 samples so if you’d like to purchase samples instead you can contact your local hardware or paint store to purchase packs (my local tarzian hardware store told me they could order some for a small price). either way, the result is a colorful, and more customized, alternative to wallpaper. thanks to scott for sharing!
