i’m really enjoying shanan from eskayel’s newest collection of wallpapers, “the island collection.” inspired by shanan’s travels to indonesia and iceland, the island collection is a digital representation of the landscapes, colors and wildlife that she saw on her trips. i especially love the polar bear pattern below- i find it pretty impossible to resist something with a bear on it. click here for more information on eskayel and the new collection!

diy project: susan’s tiger wallpaper

today’s first of 3 diy projects comes from susan of doggie eyes. she created this incredible “wallpaper” using images she printed from the web and a little spray starch to attach them to a wall in a decorative pattern. the “x” shape she chose looks so much like a regular wallpaper roll from a far i can’t wait to try this in my bathroom. the spray starch comes off relatively easily so it’s heaven for a renter. thanks so much to susan for sharing!

modern wall mural

when it comes to wall murals, i’m usually a “no, thank you” kinda girl. for some reason they conjure up images of poorly drawn disney characters in children’s rooms and folk art country scenes in my grandma’s house. but when i saw this metallic wall mural from apc at tonky design i was sold. this residential commission on great jones street in manhattan features a shimmering silver graphic pattern that gives a nice sense of visual interest to the wall, without hitting you over the head with an old school “MURAL” vibe. if i had a bright open space like this i would love to have something bold like this on a wide wall. click here to check out more on the project…thanks, apc!

adelphi paper hangings

lately i’ve been rather obsessed with historic wallpaper patterns, mainly because of d*s editor amy merrick’s excellent list of resources for them. one of the companies i’ve been drooling over most is adelphi paper hangings, and their beautiful selection of grey and pink patterns. i quite literally cannot resist the combination of grey and pink so their west st. mary’s (above left) and pagoda patterns (above right) are right up my alley. i’d love to finish my bathroom with the pagoda print but i have a feeling ac would have something to say about all that pink. until then, i’ll continue to swoon over their work. click here to check out their full collection of historic patterns from 1750-1930.

the makeover begins + wire love

yesterday i finally finished my new upholstered headboard (the diy video will be up at 1pm today!) and now the makeover momentum is carrying over to my dark living room. i feel the need to lighten everything up and have my eyes on this wallpaper from anthropologie. i have a little outcropping on one side of the room and am dying to cover it with this paper, and my vintage mirror that looks a lot like the one below (but cost a whole lot less).

i’m also dying to replace my seriously hideous overhead light with a wire chandelier. i’m still hunting for one that won’t leave me without rent money, but until then, d*s guest blogger cerentha harris has a whole post on beautiful wire designs right here…
