in the kitchen with is on vacation this week (kristina is in amsterdam, lucky!) so i thought i’d share some beautiful photos from artist bobbie burger’s kitchen. talk about color- woo! that would be one cheerful place to make dinner every night.

bobbie’s paintings give the kitchen a bold blast of color- i love the way she isn’t afraid to inject some seriously intense color into her home. if you’d like to see more of bobbie’s work, you can contact the bau-xi gallery in vancouver which represents bobbie. thanks, julie! ovangkol
designer reiko kaneko recently released two new pieces of gorgeous furniture: the ovangkol table and dapple light.

the ovangkol table seems to float in mid-air because it’s sturdy wooden top and legs float in crystal clear resin legs. i love the combination of heavy and light- it is such an elegant table, but still so warm and rich because of the wood.

dapple
the dapple light has a wood veneer shade and, on the inside, thousands of glass mirrors. inspired by a disco ball, the dapple light casts a dramatic shadow and creates an “explosion of light” thanks to all those tiny glass mirrors. click here to check out more of reiko’s work online. thanks, reiko!

today’s final before & after belongs to barb blair of knack studios. we’ve seen barb’s handiwork with furniture many, many times on d*s (as well as her beautiful home!) but today we’re getting to see her design services in full effect.

barb recently made over a client’s room (along with co-designer teresa roche) to create a modern nursery. i absolutely love this darker spin on a nursery- it’s clearly not for everyone, but then again, not everyone loves pink and flowers. the details in the room like the squirrel pillows (designed by barb and her husband), handmade wire light fixtures, owl lamp (designed by teresa) and the incredible mobile (made by royal buffet, i love the little crowns on the animals) make this a truly unique space. thanks so much to barb for sharing!

there’s something about the combination of grey and pink that i just love so when i saw this submission from d*s reader amy, i couldn’t resist. amy found this chair for $10 at the last chance thrift store in decatur, georgia and decided to restore it on her own. she scored some great fabric for $3 at her local fabric store, some coral paint from home depot and upholstery tacks and screws to finish things up. since the existing straw seat was spent, she created a new bottom with plywood (painted sea blue) and glued on the upholstery tacks to add some texture. with the fabric she created a pillow to use as seat padding and voila! a new chair for just under $30. great job, amy!

talk about a sweet makeover- designer pierce davis of columbus, ohio made over this bathroom as a valentine’s gift for his girlfriend ashley, who recently moved in with him. pierce explains that he did this project “in the most difficult possible way.. since there wasn’t enough room for a projector, i drew the trees freehand onto a layer of painters tape, then i cut out the shapes with an exact o knife and rolled the paint on. afterward, i peeled the mask off to reveal the trees.” whew! such a sweet and patience boyfriend to take on a project like that. thanks so much to pierce for sharing!
